Striking Contemporary Art Museum in Orange County Epitomizes Southern California Living "IndyWatch Feed Arts"
Clad in white terracotta tiles, the Orange County Museum of Art (OCMA) cuts a striking figure at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa. Designed by American architectural firm Morphosis, the 53,000-square-foot museum opened to the public in October 2022. Not only does the building house OCMA's collection of over 4,500 objects, but it also provides areas for education, exhibitions, and events, as well as a grand staircase intended to function as a community space.
In true Southern California form, the building's architecture has a strong relationship between indoor and outdoor space. Large windows that break up the terracotta facade allow streams of light to pour into the interior. Visitors are welcomed into an open, airy atrium and are then invited to walk up a grand staircase to a spacious upper plaza on the roof terrace. Designed to be used for events and exhibitions, the plaza takes up nearly 70 percent of the museum's footprint.
The museum's gallery spaces have been mainly organized at ground level as storefronts in an effort to connect pedestrians to the collection. There are also smaller, more intimate galleries, that connect to the mezzanine via a sky bridge.
In terms of materials, the selection of tile, glass, and steel gives OCMA a sleek, futuristic feel. The firm designed the exterior facade to play with the color and forms of the surrounding architecture, in order to blend into the environment.
By creating a gradient of architectural intensity, from complex forms at the museums entry to rectilinear and flexible forms within the galleries, the building is a memorable and striking environment for formal and informal experiences with art, states Morphosis.
The project is a triumph for the OCMA, which was founded in 1984. A call for designs was first put out in 2015, and construction began in 2019. With the opening of the new building, OCMA is entering a phase that will allow it to d...

Dr. Paulette Steeves: The Indigenous History of North America "IndyWatch Feed Uncanny"
The Indigenous Paleolithic of the Western Hemisphere is a
reclaimed history of the deep past of Indigenous people in North
and South America during the Paleolithic. Paulette F. C. Steeves
mines evidence from archaeology sites and Paleolithic environments,
landscapes, and mammalian and human migrations to make the case
that people have been in the Western Hemisphere not only just prior
to Clovis sites (10,200 years ago) but for more than 60,000 years,
and likely more than 100,000 years.Steeves discusses the political
history of American anthropology to focus on why pre-Clovis sites
have been dismissed by the field for nearly a century. She explores
supporting evidence from genetics and linguistic anthropology
regarding First Peoples and time frames of early migrations.
Additionally, she highlights the work and struggles faced by a
small yet vibrant group of American and European archaeologists who
have excavated and reported on numerous pre-Clovis archaeology
sites. In this first book on Paleolithic archaeology of the Americas
written from an Indigenous perspective, The Indigenous Paleolithic
of the Western Hemisphere includes Indigenous oral traditions,
archaeological evidence, and a critical and decolonizing discussion
of the development of archaeology in the Americas. The book is
published by University of Nebraska Press. The audiobook is
published by University Press Audiobooks. This is an important and
timely contribution to the field. (Kisha Supernant, University of
Alberta)An act of healing that benefits both Indigenous people and
academic scholarship. (Randall H. McGuire, SUNY Binghamton
University)A timely analysis of the ethnocentric influences on past
and present scientific inquiry and archaeological practice from the
perspective of an Indigenous archaeologist. (Kathleen Holen,
director of the Center for American Paleolithic Research)
Dr. Paulette Steeves. Ph.D. (Cree- Metis) is an Indigenous
archaeologist with a focus on the Pleistocene history of the
Western Hemisphere. In her research, Steeves argues that Indigenous
peoples were present in the Western Hemisphere as early as 100,000
years ago, and possibly much earlier. She has created a database of
hundreds of archaeology sites in both North and South America that
date from 250,000 to 12,000 years before present, which challenges
the Clovis First dogma of a post 12,000 year before present initial
migrations to the Americas.
Steeves received her BA Honors Cum Laude in 2000 at the University
of Arkansas at Fayetteville. In 2008 Dr. Steeves was awarded the
Clifford D. Clark fellowship to attend graduate studies at
Binghamton University in New York State and was awarded her Masters
in Anthropology 2010, and Doctorate in Anthropology in 2015. During
her doctoral studies, she worked with the Denver Museum of Nature
and Science to carry out studies in the Great Plains on mammoth
sites which contained evidence of human techno...

Book Tells the Story of a Forgotten Art Amusement Park With Work by Legendary Artists "IndyWatch Feed Arts"
In the summer of 1987, 30 of the world's top artists came together to create Luna Lunathe world's first modern art amusement park. Located in Hamburg, Germany, the event attracted legendary artists like Salvador Dal, Roy Lichtenstein, Keith Haring, and Jean-Michel Basquiat. Over the course of 13 weeks, more than 240,000 people visited this unique take on a traditional amusement park.
And now, for the first time, the English translation of the original text published about the event had been made available. LUNA LUNA: The Art Amusement Park, published by Phaidon, includes a preface by creator and author Andr Heller. Aside from photographs of the installation, the book also includes the moon graphics and short text that each artist was asked to create for the promotion of the event. Thankfully, those works have now been dusted off and can be viewed once again.
Phaidon's book is a wonderful way to reintroduce the landmark event to the public, especially considering the history of Luna Luna. Originally conceived as a touring exhibition destined for multiple countries, a change in leadership and subsequent litigation made for a sad end. Instead of traveling the world, these incredible pieces of art were shuttered away for over three decades.
From Keith Haring's carousel filled with his signature line drawings to Dal's psychedelic, mirrored Dal Dome, there is a treasure trove of hidden art to discover. Roy Lichtenstein took the opportunity to design a colorful glass structure called the Pavillion of the Gl...

These People Had a Sixth Sense Probably and It Probably Saved Their Lives "IndyWatch Feed Arts"

These 14 people did, and honestly, being tuned in just might have saved their lives.
Driving Uber one night a couple years back. I picked up four guys from a club, listening to them talk I realized that two guys (one of them ordered the ride) had met the other two at the club and were on the way to get c**e from one of their cousins.
There was an odd vibe, some of the conversation didnt seem the most linear, and I was hyper aware that these drunk dumbasses were heading with two strangers to a d**g deal. And I was the one driving them. I did not want d**gs in my car, and I was very aware that we might be on the way to an ambush. If wed been heading anywhere remote or sketchy I had to figure out how to end the ride.
The two wannabe dealers kept trying to get in touch with their cousin via cellphone, went to an apartment just off a main street, and after both had gone into the building I just said should be leave? to the guys and we did. I still dont know if it was just a ploy for a free ride, guys too drunk or dumb to pull off a basic c**e deal, or something nefarious that didnt finish.

3D Renderings of Frank Lloyd Wrights Unbuilt Architecture Celebrate His Creative Genius "IndyWatch Feed Arts"
One of the most prolific architects of the 20th century, Frank Lloyd Wright had no shortage of ideas. Throughout his life, he designed 1,171 architectural works. Many of them, like the Guggenheim Museum and Fallingwater, were eventually built. But over half660 to be exactnever moved beyond paper. Now, thanks to the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation, we are finally getting a look at what his unbuilt architecture would have looked like.
Working with digital artist David Romero, the organization has been building an impressive library of renderings that show Wright's creative genius. From the Butterfly Bridge that would have connected San Francisco and Oakland to the floating cabins of the Lake Tahoe Summer Colony, it's clear that Wright's creativity had no limits.
The reasons that these pieces of incredible architecture were never built vary. In 1957, Wright's homage to his adopted home state of Arizona was rejected for several reasons. While Wright considered his avant-garde design for the Arizona State Capitol Building to be a gift to the city, officials felt otherwise. Deemed too ornate and, with a price tag of $5 million, too costly, he was passed over for the project.
In the case of the cliff-side Morris House, it's not completely clear why the family did not go with Wright's design. But, in examining two of his ideas for the California home, it's clear that Wrig...
Homeschoolers Are Bitcoiners Who Dont Know It Yet "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"
A parent who homeschooled his four children for two decades reflects on the parallels between Bitcoin and sovereign education.
This is an opinion editorial by Scott Lindberg, a parent who homeschooled four children over 20 years with his wife, and cofounder of Free Market Kids, a company that teaches Bitcoin concepts through tabletop games.
My wife, Tali, and I recently presented educational information about Bitcoin to homeschoolers for three days at a homeschooling convention in St. Louis, Missouri. We hosted an exhibition booth and led a workshop session and the event didnt go exactly as expected.
Bitcoin has clarified misconceptions in energy, economics, diet and countless other fields, but education is another obvious area in need of an overhaul of truth. At least, this is obvious in hindsight, once you have embraced Bitcoin.
Tali and I have always been fired up about taking self custody of education, but we didnt describe it this way when we started. We have four grown children who we homeschooled for 20 years. When we started, it was just schooling. But thanks to going down the Bitcoin rabbit hole, we now have a more precise framework to explain self custody of education and its significance.
The ways that Bitcoiners and homeschoolers think are incredibly similar for reasons Ill explain here. I am more bullish on this community than ever, but we have work to do. Just as the bitcoin mining and energy sectors are merging, so too will Bitcoiners and homeschoolers eventually merge.
Think how it feels to share good things with close friends. Can you recall finding a thoughtful, personal gift and feeling giddy with excitement as you presented the wrapped present to its recipient? How excited were you about sharing something wonderful with another person and watching their eyes light up when they got it? Leading someone to the Bitcoin rabbit hole is like this.
This is the level of excitement that Tali and I felt before the convention. Homeschoolers are our people. In our hearts, we know how ali...

A prominent celebrity megachurch in Seattle, Washington, faces a lawsuit for allegedly forcing its employees to donate a portion of their wages back to the organization, or they risk being fired.
An employee of Kirkland-based Churchome was told her job was in jeopardy if she failed to tithe or donate 10% of her earnings back to the church.
So she filed a lawsuit with the King County Superior Court. https://t.co/zL8qe6bGrtKIRO Newsradio 97.3 FM (@KIRONewsradio) March 31, 2023
Employee Rachel Kellogg accused Churchome and its leaders in her lawsuit, filed in the third week of March at the King County Superior Court, of being engaged in a systemic scheme of wage and hour abuse against their employees, which includes the requirement for all employees to donate 10% of their gross monthly wages as tithe or the employees would face pressure, discipline, or even termination.
Previously working for the churchs video and production department, Kellogg was unaware of the policy until after she was hired in 2019. The lawsuit claims that the policy violates Washington states Consumer Protection Act and other labor laws.
Regardless of whether this is a church, or not a church, or a nonprofit or a for-profit corporation, requiring employees to rebate any wages to an employer is an unlawful practice, Eric Nusser said. He is one of Kelloggs lawyers working for the Terrell Marshall Law Group.
Kelloggs lawsuit includes conversations between her and other Churchome employees who told her about the mandatory tithe policy, along with a reprimand from her supervisor regarding the expectation that you get in rhythm with our company policy on tithing. Kellogg said she had to stop tithing due to financial struggles after a car accident in 2020.
Churchome declined any requests for interviews from The Seattle Times, the first major news outlet to report about the lawsuit. However, the celebrity church, which counts Canadian singer Justin Bieber and American quarterback Russell Wilson as members, released a stat...

How a Blasphemous" Food Review Sparked Catholic Outrage in the Philippines "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"
A senior high school student in the Philippines was condemned for his Twitter post. He made a food review of the consecrated communion wafer given to him during Holy Mass and even described the taste as similar to cornflakes.
In the post of the now-deleted Twitter account of the student of the Ateneo de Manila University Senior High School (ADMU-SHS), a food review was made of the consecrated host, where he judged the wafer based on characteristics such as design, taste, and crispness. The unnamed student even gave the wafer a rating of 7.1 out of 10.
The white wafer, known as communion bread among Catholics, is offered as the Body of Christ during the Holy Communion to mass attendees. During Mass, the priest consecrates the bread and wine for transubstantiation into the Body and Blood of Christ, respectively.
Reports differ on how the student could smuggle the communion wafer out of the church. Some suggested that the student stole the host by taking the consecrated wafer during Mass and putting the bread in their pocket before the end of Mass, where the student took a picture of the consecrated host before writing the post.

A Twitter user also said this incident wouldnt be the first time the student disrespected the Holy Eucharist.
Its also worth considering that the student studied at one of the most prestigious Catholic schools in the Philippines, which fueled the fire. Many Filipino netizens criticized the student for his actions; some even demanded his ex-communication...

She Froze Her Boyfriends Card So His Sister Couldnt Use It. Is He Right To Be Annoyed? "IndyWatch Feed Arts"
When people live together (or have children together), they typically share expenses to the best of their ability. 50/50 might be ideal, but if one person makes a lot more (or one person stays home to provide child care), then contributions can be more one-sided.
OP and her boyfriend have typically split things a bit unfairly because he still supports a (grown) sister who doesnt have a job.
My boyfriend grew up in a poor family. He makes decent money nowadays, but he is the only one with stable income in his family.
His sister (23) is a leech but he has a blind spot for her. She is irresponsible, totally anti-work (why waste time working when you have to live your life) and she despises me for kicking her out a year ago.
During Covid I let her move into my apartment and while my boyfriend and I went camping for a weekend she threw a huge party and trashed my place. Of course my boyfriend took her side but he didnt have any say in it it was my apartment.
Nowadays she is straight up rude to me, shes always saying cant wait till he breaks up with you, she puts his whole family against me. Apparently my boyfriend still funds everything in her life. She just has his card info and uses it without the limits.
Now that OP is pregnant and unable to work as many hours, things have gotten quite a bit tighter. Shes made sure theyre both doing 50/50, which means her boyfriend is home less because hes got to work overtime.
So I got pregnant and money got tight, I cant work as much anymore due to my health so I started counting money and it turned out I covered 70% of expenses of our joint life.
I had a talk with my boyfriend and we agreed we will go more 50/50. Turns out to meet the 50% he has to take overtime, he basically lives at work now.

5 Ways To Break Your Childs Sense Of Entitlement "IndyWatch Feed Uncanny"
In todays fast-paced world, its not uncommon for children to develop a sense of entitlement the belief that they deserve certain privileges without earning them. While this attitude can be challenging for parents to navigate, its essential to address it in order to foster gratitude, humility, and empathy in our children.
Establishing clear expectations for your childs behavior and responsibilities can help counteract feelings of entitlement. Make sure they understand the importance of contributing to the household, respecting others, and taking responsibility for their actions.
How to implement it: Create a list of age-appropriate chores and responsibilities for your child, and discuss the importance of each task. Encourage open communication and be consistent in enforcing these expectations.
Helping your child understand the importance of hard work and perseverance can go a long way in curbing entitlement. By teaching them that success comes from effort, you can foster a strong work ethic and a sense of personal achievement.
How to implement it: Encourage your child to take on challenges and praise their efforts, regardless of the outcome. Discuss the value of hard work and perseverance, and provide examples from your own life or those of role models.
Overindulging your child whether its with material possessions or constant praise can contribute to a sense of entitlement. Strive for balance and moderation in your approach to rewards and recognition.
How to implement it: Establish limits on gifts and treats, and consider implementing a reward system based on effort or achievement. Be mindful of offering praise, focusing on specific accomplishments rather than general statements.
Teaching your child to empathize with others and appreciate what they have is crucial in breaking a sense of entitlement. Fostering gratitude can help them develop a more positive and humble outlook on life.
How to implement it: Encourage your child to participate in acts of kindness and volunteer work. Regularly discuss the things they are grateful for, and consider starting a gratitude journal as a family.
As a parent, your behavior sets the example for your child. Demonstrating humility and appreciation in your own actions can help instill these values in your child.
How to implement it: Be conscious of your own actions and words, making an effort to model gratitude and humility. Share your own experiences with hard work and appreciation, and express gratitude for the efforts and kindness of others.
Breaking your childs sense of entitlement requires a multifaceted approach that includes setting clear expectations, teaching the value of hard work, avoiding overin...

In this article, we explore the five common lies kids believe, as identified by iMOM, and provide guidance on how parents can help debunk these misconceptions and foster a more accurate understanding of the world around them.
One of the most prevalent lies kids believe is that they are incapable of accomplishing certain tasks or overcoming specific challenges. This belief can hinder their personal growth and limit their potential.
How to debunk it: Encourage your child to try new things and praise their efforts, even if they dont succeed initially. Help them understand that failure is a natural part of the learning process and that perseverance and practice can lead to improvement.
Many children struggle with feelings of inadequacy and low self-esteem. This can result in a negative self-image and a belief that they are not good enough compared to their peers.
How to debunk it: Consistently remind your child of their unique strengths and talents, and celebrate their achievements, big and small. Encourage them to focus on self-improvement rather than comparing themselves to others.
Its not uncommon for children to avoid taking responsibility for their actions by shifting the blame onto others or external circumstances.
How to debunk it: Teach your child the importance of accountability and guide them in understanding how their actions can impact others. Help them develop problem-solving skills and learn to face the consequences of their actions gracefully.
Children may sometimes feel isolated or unliked by their peers, leading to a belief that they are fundamentally unlovable.
How to debunk it: Talk to your child about their feelings and try to understand the reasons behind their belief. Encourage them to build healthy friendships and engage in social activities, while also emphasizing the importance of self-love and self-acceptance.
A desire for independence and self-sufficiency may lead some children to believe that they dont need help from others, even when they are struggling.
How to debunk it: Teach your child that asking for help is a sign of strength, not weakness. Encourage them to seek assistance when needed and remind them that everyone requires support from time to time.
As parents, its essential to be aware of the common lies kids believe and take proactive steps to debunk these misconceptions. By fostering open communication, providing guidance, and nurturing your childs self...
Largest Black Hole Ever Discovered Can Fit 30 Billion Suns "IndyWatch Feed Uncanny"
A groundbreaking discovery has been made in the field of astronomy with the identification of the largest known black hole to date. This colossal black hole, which is estimated to have a mass 34 billion times that of our Sun, was discovered through the phenomenon of gravitational lensing. This discovery provides valuable insights into the formation and evolution of black holes, as well as the overall structure of the universe.
Gravitational lensing is a phenomenon that occurs when the gravity of a massive object, such as a black hole or a galaxy, bends the path of light from a more distant object behind it. This effect can create multiple, distorted images of the background object, enabling astronomers to detect otherwise invisible celestial bodies.
The discovery of the largest known black hole was made possible by the meticulous analysis of gravitational lensing data, which provided a unique window into the distant cosmos. By observing and interpreting these gravitational effects, scientists were able to pinpoint the location and estimate the mass of this enormous black hole.
The black hole, located in a galaxy known as TON 618, is a quasar an extremely bright celestial object powered by the accretion of mass onto a supermassive black hole. With a mass estimated to be 34 billion times that of the Sun, this black hole dwarfs the previous record-holder, which was approximately 18 billion solar masses.
The sheer size of this black hole raises intriguing questions about its formation and the conditions that allowed it to grow to such an immense scale. Researchers believe that the black hole may have formed relatively early in the universes history, during a period of rapid growth and evolution.
The discovery of the largest known black hole has several significant implications for our understanding of the cosmos. It challenges existing theories on black hole formation and growth, prompting scientists to reevaluate their models and assumptions. Furthermore, the discovery demonstrates the immense potential of gravitational lensing as a tool for uncovering hidden celestial objects and expanding our knowledge of the universe.
Future research will continue to explore the properties of this gargantuan black hole and the environment in which it formed. Additionally, ongoing efforts to refine gravitational lensing techniques will likely lead to the discovery of more hidden celestial objects, providing invaluable insights into the nature of the universe and its myriad mysteries.
The discovery of the largest known black hole through gravitational lensing marks a significant milestone in the field of astronomy. This colossal black hole not only offers a unique opportunity to study the formation and evolution of these enigmatic celestial objects, but also......

Two Newfound Black Holes Are The Closest Ever To Earth And Like Nothing Ever Seen Before "IndyWatch Feed Uncanny"
A recent discovery by a team of researchers has unveiled the existence of two newfound black holes located relatively close to Earth, in cosmic terms. These black holes, found using data from the European Space Agencys (ESA) Gaia mission, provide a unique opportunity to study these enigmatic cosmic phenomena up close and further our understanding of the universe.
The ESAs Gaia mission, launched in 2013, aims to create the most detailed three-dimensional map of our galaxy, the Milky Way, by measuring the positions, distances, and motions of billions of stars. The vast amount of data collected by the Gaia spacecraft has proven invaluable in expanding our knowledge of the cosmos and uncovering previously unknown celestial objects, including these two black holes.
The team of researchers, led by astronomer Fabrizio Nicastro from the National Institute for Astrophysics in Rome, Italy, analyzed Gaia data to identify two previously unknown black holes. Located approximately 1,000 light-years and 1,100 light-years away from Earth, respectively, these black holes are the closest of their kind ever discovered.
While other black holes have been detected in our galaxy, these newfound black holes are unique due to their proximity to our solar system. This closeness offers an unprecedented opportunity for scientists to observe and study black holes in greater detail than ever before.
The discovery of these nearby black holes has several implications for our understanding of the cosmos. It not only offers a rare chance to study the properties of black holes up close but also provides insights into the formation and evolution of these mysterious celestial objects.
By observing these black holes, scientists can gain a better understanding of the role they play in the overall structure and dynamics of our galaxy. Furthermore, the data collected from these observations can help refine existing models of black hole formation and behavior.
The discovery of these black holes is just the beginning, as researchers anticipate that the Gaia mission will continue to unveil previously unknown celestial objects in our galaxy. As more data is collected and analyzed, it is likely that our understanding of black holes and other cosmic phenomena will continue to expand.
In addition to the Gaia mission, upcoming space missions, such as the James Webb Space Telescope and the European Space Agencys Athena X-ray Observatory, will provide even more detailed observations of black holes and other celestial objects. These missions will contribute to an ever-growing body of knowledge that helps us unravel the mysteries of the universe.

This Is What Would Happen If Scientists Found An Asteroid Headed Towards Earth "IndyWatch Feed Uncanny"
In a thought-provoking hypothetical scenario, Paul Chodas, an asteroid expert at NASAs Jet Propulsion Laboratory, has presented a potential situation in which an asteroid is discovered on a collision course with Earth. This fictional account provides an opportunity for scientists, governments, and the public to contemplate the challenges and actions that would arise from such a threat. In this article, we explore the steps that would be taken in response to Chodas 2023 asteroid scenario.
In the hypothetical scenario, astronomers discover a previously unknown asteroid, designated as 2023 PDC, headed towards Earth. The first step would involve a thorough assessment of the asteroids size, composition, trajectory, and the likelihood of impact. Scientists would collaborate with international space agencies to refine the asteroids orbit and determine the level of threat it poses.
As the situation unfolds, the level of uncertainty about the asteroids trajectory decreases, and the probability of impact increases. Governments and space agencies would be notified to initiate appropriate response measures, while accurate tracking and continuous observation would be crucial in determining the asteroids impact location and the potential severity of the event.
In Chodas scenario, the response time before the asteroids potential impact is relatively short, limiting the options for mitigation. A coordinated international effort would be required to address the threat posed by the incoming asteroid.
Evacuation and Preparation: Given the short timeframe, deflection or disintegration methods might not be viable. Governments and emergency response agencies would need to focus on preparing for the impact by evacuating the affected area, stockpiling resources, and coordinating disaster relief efforts.
Small-Scale Deflection Efforts: While full-scale deflection missions might be unfeasible, smaller attempts could still be made to alter the asteroids course. This could involve rapid development and deployment of experimental technologies that might have a chance at altering the asteroids trajectory, even slightly.
As the hypothetical situation unfolds, clear communication and public awareness would be critical. Governments, scientists, and the media would need to work together to provide accurate, timely information to the public. This would help minimize panic and ensure that people understand the situation and the necessary response measures.
In Chodas scenario, the asteroid ultimately impacts Earth, causing significant damage and loss of life. In the aftermath, the focus would shift to recovery and rebuilding efforts. This c...

This French Bulldog Is So Good at Skateboarding Hes Being Called Tony Dawg "IndyWatch Feed Arts"
Skateboarding French Bulldog
by u/tommos in interestingasfuck
Some people excel at training their dogs to do tricks like rolling over, standing up, or giving a paw; but what about training them to do skateboard tricks? Cabbage (aka Bai Cai) is a white French Bulldog who has mesmerized the Internet by skating like an absolute pro. This is more than just a cute pup posing on a skateboard. Cabbage fully seems to understand how to push off, keep his balance, make turns, and even skate down stairs. Its no wonder that some are calling him Tony Dawg.
At home, Cabbage is described as a very gentle dog who always seems to be in a good mood, and doesn't bark very often. But he took social media by storm after the first videos of him going for a ride and cleverly avoiding obstacles popped up online. Like any skater who takes it seriously, Cabbage is quite stylish, donning patterned shirts, jerseys, and even sunglasses or chains as he speeds through town.
But how did this french bulldog learn to skate? According to the South China Morning Post, his owner, Zhao Chen, who is also a skater, began training him in 2020. At first, I used snacks to lure him to stay on the board, Zhao says. Then, I taught him how to skate with one paw. Once he picked up the skills, he became very interested and just kept skating on his own. After just 20 days of practice, Cabbage was already skating by himself. To make up for his size and in order to move smoothly, he stays on the very front of the board.
To polish his skateboarding abilities, Cabbage visits the park every morning, where he skates alongside his human for 15 minutes. While he seems very proficient and ready to tackle more complex stuff, Zhao doesn't want to push him to learn more tricks that could be too much for him. If Cabbage can do some exercise and make a few people smile, that's more than enough. While Cabbage and I are having fun, I want to bring laughter to others too, Zhao shares. People live very stressful lives now. It would be nice if we could share our happiness.

Sadly, the older I get the more I have to accept that theyre not and also that there are a lot of people out there being treated poorly in their relationships.
This OP is a real piece of work, if you ask me. He admits up front that even though he and his wife both used to work (and that she used to out earn him), she was recently able to quit her job.
Her nan, who raised her, passed and left her a significant inheritance, which she spent buying them a new house, new cars, and saving for retirement.
She also decided to stay home because she has a disability that made working hard.
Before the birth of our daughter, my wife and I both worked full time in low-middle earning jobs with my wife earning a bit more than I but not by much.
My wife returned to work out of necessity when our daughter was 3 months old. Her mental health became pretty bad and she has a minor disability that makes work life a little hard and she found it a bit worse after having our daughter but we had to do what we had to do.
My wifes nan who sort of raised her and was her only family passed away sadly when our daughter was 6 months old. My wife inherited everything she owned. It was a big inheritance. Not enough for us both to immediately retire but a lot. Enough for us to buy a decent house outright, a new car each and to put some away for a comfortable retirement.
Shortly after her nan died, my wife stopped working and became a stay at home mom. Partially due to grief and struggles at her job, and a bit because she always would have preferred to stay home with our daughter.
Hes feeling put out because he doesnt want to work, either, and so has decided he sho...

Missing Toddler Found With Dog Who Never Left His Side While He Was Lost in the Woods "IndyWatch Feed Arts"
One family in New Jersey lived every parent's worst nightmare, but luckily there was a happy ending. Four-year-old Parker and his father Jason were making cupcakes when his dad stepped out to use the bathroom. After being gone for a few minutes, Jason returned to the kitchen, but Parker was nowhere to be found. That's when panic set in as Jason realized that his son and their black lab Toby had wandered out the back door.
Jason immediately called his wife Vickey to let her know that he couldn't find Parker. She told him to call the police as she raced home. Their home is surrounded by woods and leads onto a golf course. After an hour of searching, they were still unable to find their toddler or Toby. Luckily, a neighbor heard a boy crying in the woods and called over the state troopers.
The bodycam of the first trooper to reach the boy captured the incredible moment when Parker was found. While he was shaken up and crying, he was otherwise unharmed and ran straight into his mother's arms. In fact, the thing he seemed most upset about was the fact that he'd lost his shoe, crying out, I want my shoe!
Parker and Toby were about a quarter of a mile from their home when there were found, and Parker confirmed that his dog never left his side. Toby was also crucial to the rescue, as Ian Emmi, the state trooper who found the duo, first spotted the dog in the woods.
Originally saw the dog jumping around doing circles so I figured he had to be close by if the dog was there, Emmi said.
Vickey acknowledged that the experience was a reminder that things can change in the blink of an eye. To ensure that Parker and Toby won't be going on any more unauthorized adventures, they've since upgraded the security in their home and added alarms that go off when doors are opened.
And while they never did find Parker's shoe, they made sure to let him pick out a new pair as soon as he got home. Toby...
Arkansas House And Senate Pass Bill Protecting Right To Mine Bitcoin, Goes To Governor For Approval "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"
Arkansas has taken the next step to approve a bill that protects the right to mine Bitcoin, which now heads to the governors office.
The Arkansas State House has passed a bill aimed at regulating the Bitcoin mining industry in the state. Already passed by the State Senate, the bill now heads to the governors office for approval. The Arkansas Data Centers Act of 2023 would create guidelines for bitcoin miners and would aim to prevent fraudulent business practices.
The bill proposes that a Bitcoin mining business may operate in the state if it complies with state laws concerning business guidelines and tax policies, any ordinances concerning operations and safety, any rules or rates for utility service provided by or on behalf of a public entity, and state and federal employment laws. The bill also proposes that miners will be required to pay applicable taxes and government fees in acceptable forms of currency and operate in a manner that causes no stress on an electric public utilitys generation capabilities or transmission network. The bill further allows individuals to operate home Bitcoin mining according to applicable utility rules and rates.
The bill aims to recognize that data centers create jobs, pay taxes and provide general economic value to local communities and the state. It clarifies the guidelines needed to protect Bitcoin miners from discriminatory industry-specific regulations and taxes. The proposed bill has defined several key terms such as "digital asset" that means Bitcoin and cryptocurrency. It also defines "digital asset miner" as an individual who mines for digital assets and "digital asset mining" as the use of electricity to power a computer for the purpose of securing or validating a blockchain network.
The proposed bill further clarifies that "digital asset mining business" means a group of computers working at a single site that consumes more than one megawatt (1MW) on an average annual basis for the purpose of generating digital assets by securing a blockchain network. It also defines "node" as a computational device that contains a copy of blockchain-distributed ledger technology. The bill defines "residence" as a permanent dwelling place, unit, or accessory structure.
The bill has proposed that the legislative body means the quorum court of a county or the city council, board of directors, board of commissioners or similar elected governing body of local government, and that a person may have a digital asset mining business in an area that is zoned for industrial use that has not been designa...

Proposal to Outlaw Caste Discrimination Sparks Backlash Against CA Senator "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"
A lawmaker introduced an anti-caste discrimination bill in Californias Senate on March 22 amidst persisting caste discrimination in the United States and other parts of the world. If passed, the state would become the first in the country to outlaw caste discrimination explicitly.
A new bill introduced Wednesday in Californias state Senate could be a historic win in the fight against caste discrimination in the U.S. https://t.co/MJayLx5dxy

The proposal was filed in Californias upper house by state senator Aisha Wahab, the first female Muslim and Afghan American elected into Californias state Senate. The bill seeks to include caste as a protected category in the states anti-discrimination laws.
Even though caste discrimination was banned in India after its independence from the British Empire, it continues to persist in the South Asian country and in the United States, where employment laws do not explicitly prohibit caste-based discrimination.
Banning caste discrimination does not illegally target South Asian communities - it guarantees the protection of marginalized South Asian communities from caste discrimination, and moves us forward in our global fight for caste equity.

Raw Cream Gummies "IndyWatch Feed Food"
I made these four times today to dial in my ratios and came up with a way to keep everything truly raw and unpasteurized while using the gelatin. Its a little unconventional but it has been working really well to set up my owls [another silicone mold will work as well.] I made these with the intention of helping me start my day and help me refuel throughout the day as a man who works construction in the South, often outside under full sun for hours at a time. So they are salty. The teaspoon of salt seems to be a happy place of salty but not too salty. But I could see some folks wanting less salt if they arent used to the higher salt recommendations of the Weston A. Price Foundation or using salt to help with hydration during the sweaty summer days. The texture is a thicker creamy jello and I like it a lot. Making these little owls has been a really easy way to get some good nutrient density on the go, Ill grab a couple as I head out the door for work or put a couple in my cooler to eat after lunch. Let me know if you have any questions or need me to clarify anything!

Travel Photographer Takes 24 Trips to Capture the Soul of Cuba [Interview] "IndyWatch Feed Arts"
American documentary photographer Michael Chinnici is in love with Cuba. He began visiting the country once travel restrictions eased and he hasn't looked back since. Vanishing Cuba is his look at the soul of Cuba through evocative photographs of the country's people and places. This large-format coffee table book features over 300 images from his first 24 trips to the island nation and is available in three special editions.
Chinnici's powerful visuals are accompanied by stories in English and Spanish to help guide the narrative. Many of these stories are told by the Cubans who have created strong bonds with the New York-based photographer. And together, they are helping tell a story of Cuba's past, present, and future.
From intimate portraits to landscapes to candid moments on the street, Vanishing Cuba is a collection that speaks to the heart. Turning the pages, it's impossible not to feel Chinnici's love for Cuba. In this way, it's more than a photography book but is rather a love letter to all the Cubans who have left an impression on the photographer and who continue to drive his passion to return.
We were able to chat with Chinnici about his love for photography and for Cuba, as well as the impact he hopes Vanishing Cuba will have. Read on for My M...

NASA Says That Something Weird Is Happing In The Universe Right Now "IndyWatch Feed Uncanny"
In a recent press release, NASA announced that the Hubble Space Telescope has uncovered new data that suggests something mysterious is happening in our universe. This discrepancy, which remains unexplained, could potentially point to the need for brand-new physics to understand the workings of the cosmos.
The Hubble Space Telescope has been gathering data on a variety of cosmic objects that serve as distance markers. These markers, which are essential for understanding the expansion rate of the universe, are revealing a puzzling inconsistency. The data collected by Hubble indicates that the universe is expanding faster than expected, based on predictions from the early universes conditions as observed by the European Space Agencys Planck satellite.
This discrepancy, which has been dubbed the Hubble tension, has persisted despite numerous attempts to refine the measurements and observations. The cause of this tension remains a mystery, but the data gathered by Hubble supports the idea that something unusual is happening, possibly involving a new, undiscovered aspect of physics.
One of the potential explanations for this inconsistency could involve the presence of dark energy, an enigmatic force that is believed to drive the accelerated expansion of the universe. Some scientists have speculated that dark energy may be interacting with other cosmic forces in a way that has not yet been understood. Alternatively, the discrepancy could point to the existence of new particles or forces, which would require an update to our current understanding of fundamental physics.
The search for answers to this cosmic mystery will likely involve further observations and data collection from telescopes like Hubble, as well as from upcoming missions such as the James Webb Space Telescope and the Wide Field Infrared Survey Telescope. These future missions could provide additional insights into the nature of this discrepancy and help astronomers determine whether new physics are indeed needed to explain the observed phenomena.
As NASAs press release suggests, the persistent discrepancy in our understanding of the universes expansion rate is both intriguing and challenging. The data collected by the Hubble Space Telescope is supporting the idea that something mysterious is happening, possibly involving new and undiscovered physics. As scientists continue to gather information and observe the universe, it is possible that this enigma will lead to groundbreaking discoveries, reshaping our comprehension of the cosmos and its underlying principles.
...Jealousy and Its Antidote: Pioneering Psychiatrist Leslie Farber on the Tangled Psychology of Our Most Destructive Emotion "IndyWatch Feed Arts"
There is but one emotion that claws at the heart with the twin talons of anger and shame, savaging self-regard with haunting ferocity that feeds on itself. Jealousy, wrote the Swiss philosopher Henri-Frdric Amiel in his insightful treatise on love, is precisely loves contrary the most passionate form of egotism, the glorification of a despotic, exacting, and vain ego, which can neither forget nor subordinate itself. And yet jealousy is also one of the commonest human experiences one that visits upon even the noblest heart, warping reality and reason beyond recognition.
The complex psychological underpinnings of jealousy, and what they might reveal in the way of relief, and how they might illuminate the most hopeful frontiers of love, is what the pioneering psychiatrist Leslie Farber (July 12, 1912March 24, 1981) explores in his 1973 essay On Jealousy, found in his altogether penetrating collection The Ways of the Will (public library).

Is Another Jesus Revolution Upon Us? | Greg Laurie | The Glenn Beck Podcast | Ep 180 "IndyWatch Feed Survival"
We need a spiritual awakening in America so bad right now, Pastor
Greg Laurie tells Glenn on this Easter weekend episode of The Glenn
Beck Podcast. Our society has abandoned God and embraced sin but
hes seen this before. Back in the 1960s and 70s, Greg was a part of
possibly the biggest Christian movement in American history, now
dubbed the Jesus Revolution, when hippies gave up their LSD and
embraced Jesus Christ. Its now at the heart of the recent film The
Jesus Revolution, featuring Kelsey Grammer and Jonathan Roumie, who
plays Jesus in The Chosen. Greg tells Glenn just how similar todays
America is to the era of the Jesus Revolution and why he believes
we might be poised to see another spiritual awakening very soon. He
and Glenn also discuss the importance of family and parenthood,
especially given everything children struggle with today. And he
reveals some of the events only God could have orchestrated that
led to the filming of Jesus Revolution, including the true and
tragic story of Lonnie Frisbee. But, as Greg tells Glenn, its often
the greatest tragedies that bring total redemption.

The Mother of the Mother of the Virgin Mary "IndyWatch Feed Literature"
Saint who? I asked. Eh-meh-ren-tsya, Olga Tokarczuk repeated. Saint Annes mother. I was nonplussed. The mother of the mother of the Virgin Mary? Tokarczuk blew out cigarette smoke at high speed, then inhaled with excitement and impatience. I needed a lesson.
We were midway through a nine-hour-long exchange about her life and writing, the edited "https://www.theparisreview.org/interviews/7968/the-art-of-fiction-no-258-olga-tokarczuk"> read in the Reviews Spring issue. Throughout our conversation, I often felt that, like her books, Tokarczuks speech requires footnotes and annotations.
Tokarczuk researches her short stories and novels with academic intensity. She digs up forgotten, esoteric myths and legends and shows how this esoterica is woven into the warp and woof of European culture. Beneath a Europe of rational, religious, racial, and ethnic dogmatisms, she unveils a continent rife with ethnically and linguistically syncretic visionaries, mystics, and half-pagan storytellers. There is a hopefulness to these counterhistories that puts its faith in humanitys capacity for creativity and imaginationin the loosening and intermingling of top-down stereotypes and norms by collective acts of retelling and elaboration. Emerentia, Tokarczuk explained to me, was one such esoteric discovery that she wove into her latest novel, Empuzjon, which has yet to appear in English.
I was raised a devout Catholic, and in my early teens I kept a book of saints by my bedside, arranged in the pages from January to December following the order of their feast days. Each evening, I would read the days entry before going to bed, c...

Support an important vaccine bill in Alaska! "IndyWatch Feed Food"
Speak up for a good bill in the Alaska legislature that would give patients the right to have support persons present while also protecting the support person from vaccine mandates.
Specifically,HB 52 would prevent hospitals, mental health facilities, long-term care facilities, or hospices from requiring a support person to provide proof of the support persons vaccination or immunization status.
The Alaska No Patient Left Behind Act (HB 52) is especially important because so many people were denied access to visitation by support persons during Covid. Many patients died alone in hospitals without anyone to advocate for them.
Every patient has the right to an advocate whether that person is vaccinated or not especially when science clearly demonstrates that unvaccinated people do not pose a risk to others.
Please speak up! We need YOUR voice to help pass bill HB 52 today!
TAKE ACTION:
Contact your Alaska State Representative and ask him/her to SUPPORT HB 52.
You can look up who represents you at: http://akleg.gov
(Scroll down to the bottom of the page to find the Who Represents Me? tab)
Calls are more effective than emails and only take a few minutes. Below is a sample script along with additional Talking Points. Use your own words when you call or email a personal message is always more effective than a form message!
SAMPLE SCRIPT for HB 52:
Hi, my name is ____, and I am a constituent. I am asking Representative ____ to support HB 52, which would protect hospital and care facility patients by ensuring visitation rights regardless of the support persons vaccination status.
HB 52 is especially important as people have been denied access to their loved ones for not having Covid-19 injections.
No one should be discriminated against based on their Covid-19 injection status. Especially when the CDC admits that Covid vaccines do not prevent transmission. Unvaccinated visitors do not pose any greater risk than vaccinated visitors.
I urge Representative _____to SUPPORT HB 52, which would protect patients and their advocates.
TALKING POINTS for calls and emails:
Help support a good vaccine bill in Arkansas! "IndyWatch Feed Food"
Arkansas legislators have introduced a good bill that establishes a criminal offense of vaccine harm for pharmaceutical company executive officers when their acts or omissions cause individuals harm.
Senate Bill 8 (SB 8) would create a criminal offense of vaccine harm if:
Executive officer is defined as a president, chair of an executive committee, chief financial officer, or another individual with managerial authority who performs similar functions to a president, chair of an executive committee, or chief financial officer.
Vaccine harm is defined as an unclassified felony with a sentence of imprisonment of not less than one year and not more than life.
S.B. 8 is headed in the right direction! It passed the Senate and has been sent to the House, where it was referred to the Judiciary Committee. We need YOUR voice to help it pass!

SAMPLE SCRIPT:
Hi, my name is ____, and I am a constituent. I am calling to ask Representative ____ to SUPPORT SB 8.
This bill establishes a criminal offense for pharmaceutical company executives who knowingly conceal evidence, documentation, or information that their vaccine has dangerous effects.
SB 8 is especially important given the fact that pharma executives have a long history of fraud, and they lied about Covid shots, which have now been proven ineffective, and carry a high rate of side effects.
As of 3/24/23, 2,450,457 injuries and 34,747 deaths were reported in connection with the...
Glenn: Child transgender push shows America has GONE DARK "IndyWatch Feed Survival"
Politicians in Canada recently announced new legislation that if
passed would create community safety zones in which certain
criticism of transgenderism could result in a 25,000 DOLLAR FINE.
So, is America that far behind such radical moves? Maybe not. In
this clip, Glenn details some of the latest moves in America to
push transgender ideology onto OUR KIDS. Its time we take a stand
for truth if not for our society, then for the sake of our
children. I will tell you, this country has gone dark, Glenn says.
And if you dont stand up now, we will make the Nazis look like

Trumps Arrest PROVES We Live Under Democrat TYRANNY | Ep 266 "IndyWatch Feed Survival"
Glenn examines the 34 felony charges that have been lobbed at
President Trump and warns of the dark place America is headed. All
signs point to a banana republic when a justice system is used as a
political weapon, fear keeps people in line, and the corrupt
public/private partnerships reign supreme. Remember the video from
China when President Xi had his political rival forcibly removed on
live TV? This is essentially what the Democrat Party is doing to
its biggest political opponent. Any Democrat or member of the
mainstream media who condemned Xis actions or expressed shock but
is now applauding what is happening to Donald Trump can kindly SIT
DOWN. Blaze Media co-founder and @LevinTV host Mark Levin confirms
to Glenn: We ARE in a tyranny. The question is whether we can claw
our way out. He tells Glenn about his dinner with President Trump
just hours after he learned of DA Braggs indictment. The more they
push Trump, the more he pushes back. He will NOT collapse. Levin
also explains the REAL reason they want to take out Trump and calls
on the GOP, billionaires on the right, and DAs to stop being
cowards and enforce the rule of law: They need to scour these law
books and sue the bastards!

On Anzia Yezierskas Bread Givers "IndyWatch Feed Literature"
I had recently begun attending Sarah Lawrence College when Anzia Yezierskas novel Bread Givers was rst introduced to me. I was twenty years old, but as a married Orthodox Jewish woman with a one-year-old child to show for myself instead of a high school diploma, I had been enrolled in the continuing education program for one year in order to prepare for proper matriculation. The blunt hairline of my voluminous wig paired with my over-the-knee skirts would have been enough to render me the exotic outsider to my worldly classmates even if I hadnt revealed my heavy accent or my ignorance of basic cultural references. So when an older classmate who hadnt previously made much effort at conversing with me thrust the worn paperback into my hands, I was caught unawares by her sudden attention.
Maybe youve already read it, but I thought, just in case
Eyeing the title and the unfamiliar name of the author, I shook my head in bemusement. Is this some famous classic, I asked, some essential part of the canon Ive missed and need to catch up on?
She laughed. Not really, she answered. But back when I was in college the rst time around, some acquaintances of mine were instrumental in its republication, so thats how I know about it. I came across it again recently while I was spring cleaning, but you know how it is with coincidences. They rarely are. I thought of you immediately; I felt strongly that this book was meant for you.
Taking that portentous statement on its merit, I began to read the book the same day, parking my car on the side of the road on the way home from class for as long as I had until my husband returned from work, reading behind the steering wheel instead of on my sofa for the sake of peace and privacy. Even today I cringe when remembering the experience. As I read about the impoverished Orthodox protagonist suffering through the deprivations of the Lower East Side tenements while dreaming of dignity and education, I felt as if my classmate, in handing me the book and saying it was meant for you, had in effect publicly sha...

Unapproved euthanasia of rats in neuroscience study leads to retraction "IndyWatch Feed Health"
A 2017 paper describing neuroscience research with rats has been retracted after data mis-management, including the mistreatment of the animals, came to light.
The retracted paper was the second by Subimal Datta, a professor of psychology and anesthesiology at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, to receive a flag for data problems.
The article, BNDF heterozygosity is associated with memory deficits and alterations in cortical and hippocampal EEG power, was published in Behavioural Brain Research and has been cited 14 times, according to Clarivates Web of Science.
The retraction notice, published March 31, stated:
This article has been retracted at the request of the Editor-in-Chief, the Corresponding Author and the Institutional Research Integrity office at the University of Tennessee due to data mis-management of the project, including inappropriate removal of animals from analyses and use of unapproved euthanasia.
The article describes two behavioral experiments using 12 rats, after which the animals were euthanized via isoflurane overdose.
In a third experiment, the researchers implanted EEG electrodes in additional rats and took recordings for 1-2 weeks. Afterwards, the rats:
were deeply anesthetized with ketamine-xylazine (100 mg/kg ketamine, 10 mg/kg xylazine) and perfused transcardially with normal saline and 4% paraformaldehyde. The brains were removed and processed for histological localization of electrode track and EEG recording sites.
The paper also stated that all procedures were performed in accordance with the NIH Guide
for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals and approved by the University of Tennessee Animal Care Committee (Protocol Number: 2349-UTK).
Datta, the corresponding author of the article, has received more than $10 million in NIH grants, with $2 million coming from 2014 through 2018 while he has been at the University of Tennessee. He has not responded to our request for comment, nor has the un...
Live Q&A with Ben from Suspicious Observers "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"
Ordinals Are Good For Bitcoin, But More Standards Are Needed "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"
Ordinals are driving a Bitcoin popularity surge, but for that to continue the protocol will need to integrate more standards.
This is an opinion editorially by Danny Yang, founder of the Stanford Bitcoin Meetup, who has inscribed the OnChainMonkey NFT collection on Bitcoin.
In the last few years, NFTs have been the breakout application for Ethereum and other blockchains. While much of this mainstream user base did leave with the drop in NFT prices, many have stayed. But the initial surge in NFT interest drew most of these users to blockchain projects aside from Bitcoin, even though BTC is the largest cryptocurrency by market cap (which is twice the size of Ethereums) and it has the highest level of security and the most proven capacity as a store of value. Unsurprisingly, a protocol like Ordinals arrived to make it possible for NFTs to exist on Bitcoin. It was only a matter of time until someone recognized that Bitcoins staying power could underpin a truly killer app.
Contrary to some complaints, the Ordinals protocol and the capacity to create NFTs on Bitcoin is remarkably great for the future of Bitcoin. With ordinals, we can now inscribe and store non-fungible digital assets on the Bitcoin blockchain. More value stored means even more incentive to participate in the network weve seen this reflected in the increase in Bitcoin nodes operating further driving up the competitiveness of the bitcoin miners and the value of bitcoin.
Its not a fad, either. NFT collectors rushed to pay more than $16 million in bitcoin for 288 Yuga Labs ordinals. Bitcoin NFTs are the new gold standard and only strengthen bitcoins place as the global standard for a store of value.
The first Ordinals inscription was added to Bitcoin in December 2022, and started to gain traction in early 2023. An ordinal is composed of two parts: an individual satoshi (the smallest unit o...
