How the FBI Took an Innocent Woman's Savings "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"
The Federal Bureau of Investigation regularly seizes cash, cars and other valuables that belong to people who aren't accused of any crimes. Months later, many of those people receive a dense, boilerplate notice stating that the FBI plans to keep their property forever, without any explanation of whya blatantly unconstitutional practice. That's what happened to Linda Martin. When the FBI took her life savings from a safe-deposit box during a 2021 raid of US Private Vaults in Beverly Hills, Calif., she assumed her money would be returned. The company's alleged wrongdoing had nothing to do with her. But several months later, sheand hundreds of other innocent people who had their safe-deposit boxes takenreceived a notice stating that the government wanted to forfeit her money. The [notice] didn't accuse Ms. Martin of any crime or even lay out why the FBI was trying to take her property. The FBI sends out similarly inscrutable notices whenever it wants to forfeit property, in a clear violation of the Fifth Amendment. Federal agencies keep the proceeds from forfeited property. In the US Private Vaults case, the FBI admitted under oath that even before the raid occurred it had decided to pursue property forfeiture against everything worth over $5,000 in the renters' boxes. Using federal forfeiture records, the Institute for Justice calculated that from 2017 to 2021 Justice Department agencies gained more than $8 billion through forfeiture, with the FBI taking in more than $1.19 billion of that bounty.

U.S. Special Forces Want to Use Deepfakes for Psy-Ops "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"
U.S. Special Operations Command, responsible for some of the country's most secretive military endeavors, is gearing up to conduct internet propaganda and deception campaigns online using deepfake videos, according to federal contracting documents. SOCOM's next generation propaganda aspirations are outlined in a procurement document that lists capabilities it's seeking for the near future and soliciting pitches from outside parties that believe they're able to build them. Last with a new section: "Advanced technologies for use in Military Information Support Operations (MISO)," a Pentagon euphemism for its global propaganda and deception efforts. Perhaps as provocative as the mention of deepfakes is the section that follows, which notes SOCOM wishes to finely tune its offensive propaganda seemingly by spying on the intended audience through their internet-connected devices. Described as a "next generation capability to 'takeover' Internet of Things (loT) devices for collect [sic] data and information from local populaces to enable breakdown of what messaging might be popular and accepted through sifting of data once received," the document says that the ability to eavesdrop on propaganda targets "would enable MISO to craft and promote messages that may be more readily received by local populace." In 2017, WikiLeaks published pilfered CIA files that revealed a roughly similar capability to hijack into household devices.

'Project Fear' authors discussed when to 'deploy' new Covid variant "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"
[Former UK Health Secretary] Matt Hancock wanted to "deploy" a new Covid variant to "frighten the pants off" the public and ensure they complied with lockdown, leaked messages seen by The Telegraph have revealed. The Lockdown Files more than 100,000 WhatsApp messages sent between ministers, officials and others show how the Government used scare tactics to force compliance and push through lockdowns. Hancock ... appeared to suggest in one message that a new strain of Covid that had recently emerged would be helpful in preparing the ground for the looming lockdown, by scaring people into compliance. In a WhatsApp conversation on Dec 13 ... Damon Poole - one of Mr Hancock's media advisers - informed his boss that Tory MPs were "furious already about the prospect" of stricter Covid measures and suggested "we can roll pitch with the new strain". The comment suggested that they believed the strain could be helpful in preparing the ground for a future lockdown and tougher restrictions in the run-up to Christmas 2020. Mr Hancock then replied: "We frighten the pants off everyone with the new strain." Mr Poole agreed, saying: "Yep that's what will get proper behaviour [sic] change." Mr Hancock expressed his worry that talks over Brexit would dominate headlines and reduce the impact, and probed Mr Poole for his media advice. "When do we deploy the new variant," asked Mr Hancock. During the pandemic, the Government was accused of scaremongering but it was denied.

Project Fear's 'psychological warfare' must never be repeated "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"
Leaked messages seen by The Telegraph showed that in December 2020, Matt Hancock, the health secretary at the time, suggested that the Government "frighten the pants off everyone" to ensure strict Covid rules were adhered to. Sir Charles Walker, who was a leading member of the Covid Recovery Group of Conservative backbenchers, said that he was distressed by the leaked conversations. "What makes me so angry is the evils and the psychological warfare we deployed against young people and the population, all those behavioural psychologists," he [said]. "And there needs to be a reckoning. We need to understand and fully appreciate the damage that those sorts of campaigns did." Sir Charles lamented Parliament going "missing in action" as most MPs waved through dozens of Covid restrictions with little debate. He said: "Those voices that raised concerns were just othered. We were positioned as being anti-lockdown, Right-wing headbangers. And actually wanting to do the right thing isn't Right-wing. "We did terrible things to youngsters. We did terrible things to a large number of people. We need to make sure we never do those things again." Paul Dolan, a professor of behavioural science at the London School of Economics, blamed a mix of "mission creep" and "expertise creep" for a response dominated by groupthink. "It was wrong in every sense to make younger people scared of a virus that we knew very early on was of very limited risk to them," he [said].
Note: The unethical use of "nudge" tactics to inflate fear among the public prompted 40 psychologists in the UK to write a letter to the Parliaments Public Administration and Constitutional Affairs Committee, saying it was highly questionable whether a civilised society should knowingly increase the emotional discomfort of its citizens as a means of gaining their compliance." BOOK REVIEW: 'The Truth About Wuhan: How I Uncovered the Biggest Lie in History' "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"
The origin of SARS-CoV-2, the agent that causes the disease COVID-19, remains a mystery. But there are purportedly a few high up in government and scientific communities well aware of its genesis. In "The Truth About Wuhan: How I Uncovered the Biggest Lie in History," Andrew G. Huff, former EcoHealth Alliance vice president and senior scientist, details his coming forward "as a material witness and whistleblower related to SARS-CoV-2." "The Truth About Wuhan" [contains] an insider's view of working for EcoHealth Alliance; a damning critique of models and of function" research; the real COVID-19 timeline; China and U.S. culpability in the virus mayhem; and the multifarious, direct attacks used by the federal government to harass and discredit Mr. Huff. According to the author, "SARS-CoV-2 leaked from the [Wuhan Institute of Virology] laboratory as early as August 2019. The probable cases detected in Italy in 2019 make sense as Italy is one of the most popular tourist destinations of the Chinese. By mid-October 2019 the disease was likely already on every continent except Antarctica. The DoD, along with militaries globally, detected the disease in their countries' service members that attended the Military World Games in Wuhan. Trying to avoid global panic, governments began to implement response plans, which included the U.S. government's mobilization of the mRNA SARS-CoV-2 gene therapy."

Conflicting Reports Thicken Nord Stream Bombing Plot "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"
In the month since veteran journalist Seymour Hersh published his bombshell report alleging that President Joe Biden personally authorized a covert action to bomb the Nord Stream pipelines, we've seen a frenzy of speculation, detailed dissection of Hersh's specific assertions, and the emergence of competing narratives both supporting and denouncing the report. On March 7, the New York Times and the German newspaper Die Zeit both published stories that thicken the plot. The Times story was based on a narrative clearly being pushed by U.S. intelligence sources that "a pro-Ukrainian group carried out the attack." If the bombing of the Nord Stream pipelines was, as Hersh alleges, directed by the U.S., then the leaked suggestion that the culprits were a "pro-Ukrainian group" could indicate a nascent effort at floating a cover story. No one has claimed responsibility for this attack, but there are recent precedents for foreign actors taking credit for U.S. operations to conceal Washington's involvement. Military officials have lied or misled the public ... throughout U.S. history. There is no U.S. law or rule prohibiting the government from promoting a false alternative explanation to conceal an operation. "This is an established practice in military operations and intelligence activities where it is often known as 'cover and deception,'" [said former Government Secrecy Project director Steven Aftergood]. "Sometimes, in order to maintain the operational security of X, you have to declare that it is actually Y."

Amazingly Realistic Animal Sand Sculptures Come Alive on Shore "IndyWatch Feed Arts"
When we think of sand sculptures, castles likely first come to mind. But you can do a lot more with sand than construct tiny buildings; artist Andoni Bastarrika is proof of it. He creates realistic animal portraits that are so lifelike you'll do a double-take when you see them. To create the illusion, Bastarrika tightly packs the sand to create a blank canvas for textures like fur and wrinkles. He adds to the realism with stone powders that color the sand as well as other materials as necessary. The resulting animals appear to be laying on the ground with an ocean view behind them.
Bastarrika realized he had a gift for this unique type of sculpture in the summer of 2010 after playing with his daughters on the beach. From that moment I knew clearly inside that I had to follow this path, he tells My Modern Met. I practiced for two years in seasons like autumn, winter, and early spring when the beaches were empty. After that time, he felt ready to share his talents with others.
There is a reason that Bastarrika prefers to sculpt subjects that are nude, which includes animals. As in nature itself, he explains, nothing is straight, everything is round, everything is fluid, everything is created in a spiral. And therefore to model naked bodies I didn't need metal tools like spatulas. I was able to model it simply with my hands, thanks to the high sensitivity I have in them. And then after looking for and achieving the expression with my hands, is when I began to use bird feathers and a pointed stick to delve into the details.
Bastarrika has a deep interest in evoking the spirit of his subjects that then find a connection with the viewer. I am fascinated that people can confuse sculptures made simply with sand and water as if they were real, he says. The sculptures that I make have life, they have a soul, it is the same soul that Mother Earth has. My sculptures speak for her and for all the animals that are the most connected to Mother Earth. For this, I focus on the wisdom, strengt...

Rooted in the American South, Souls Grown Deep Like the Rivers Recognizes Remarkable Artistic Traditions of Black Artists "IndyWatch Feed Arts"
The last line of a 1921 poem by Langston Hughes reads, My soul has grown deep like the rivers. From the sun rising over the Euphrates to the muddy banks of the Mississippi, his words evoke the universality and timelessness of flowing water mirrored by the coursing of blood through our veins. Taking inspiration from Hughess reflections, Souls Grown Deep Like the Rivers at the Royal Academy of Arts in London shines a light on the creative traditions of Black artists in the American South whose artistic pursuits reflect pervasive issues of economic inequality, oppression, and marginalization and examine themes like identity, sexuality, the influence of place, and ancestral memory.
Encompassing more than 60 quilts, sculptures, installations, paintings, drawings, and assemblages by 34 artists from the mid-20th-century to the present, the exhibition is drawn largely from the Souls Grown Deep Foundation. Based in Atlanta, Georgia, the organization stewards a collection of around 1,000 works by more than 160 Southern Black artiststwo-thirds of whom are womento advocate for their inclusion in the art historical canon. While many are now well-known in the U.S., most of their works have never before been exhibited in Europe.

The Perfect Match: Visiting Real Bedford F.C. Is A Bitcoin, Soccer Fans Dream "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"
Real Bedford F.C., a professional soccer team integrated with Bitcoin, gives fans of Bitcoin a team to root for.
This is an opinion editorial by Marek Feder, the editor in chief of Investro and a Bitcoin journalist who recently paid a visit to Bedford, England, with a group of Bitcoin and soccer fans from Slovakia.
Being a soccer fan as well as a Bitcoin enthusiast, I knew it was only a matter of time before I paid my visit to Bedford, England home of a soccer team owned by What Bitcoin Did host Peter McCormack. And once I heard that a group of like-minded people were traveling from Slovakia, my homeland, to Bedford, to watch a game between Real Bedford F.C and Holmer Green F.C., I decided to join.
Here are a few things I learned about the Bitcoin community from this experience and why I think every fan of Bitcoin and soccer should plan their own trips as well.
First and foremost, one of the best things about trips like this is the chance to meet people who look at the world in a similar fashion to yourself at least a bit. And while during most meetups you and your fellow Bitcoiners will have just one thing in common (Bitcoin), if you decide to take a trip to Bedford to watch a soccer match, it is very likely that there will be at least two topics that you have in common.
The combination of soccer and Bitcoin ensured that we were able to bond instantly despite the fact that most of us had never met each other. Moreover, it gave us a chance to not only talk about Bitcoin and everything related to it which in most cases can have a bit of a formal or, at least, educational connotation but through soccer, we were able to relax even more and enjoy a beer and, overall, a great trip.
What is more important is the fact that a trip or event like this gives you the chance to meet people you might have never met otherwise. In just a small group of 11 people that came to the meetup from Slovakia, we not only had Pavol Stick Rusnk, co-founder of Trezor and Satoshi Labs, but we also had other Bitcoin entrepreneurs joining the trip, as well as a member of the Slovak parliament.
A trip like this can, therefore, be a good opportunity for many different reasons, from meeting like-minded people, to knowledge sharing, to networking.

Credit Suisse collapse and the future of altcoins "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"
The collapse of Credit Suisse has raised many questions about the stability of traditional banking institutions. The bank was hit hard by the Archegos Capital Management scandal, which saw the funds losses of over $10 billion. As investors look for alternative investment options, the future of altcoins, or alternative cryptocurrencies, is coming into focus. Altcoins have been gaining popularity in recent years, with many investors seeing them as a way to diversify their portfolios and potentially achieve higher returns. However, the Credit Suisse collapse has brought concerns about the risks of investing in these newer, less established assets to the forefront. In this article, well explore the Credit Suisse collapse and its potential impact on the future of altcoins. Well also take a closer look at the benefits and risks of investing in these alternative digital currencies, and what investors should consider before jumping in.
Altcoins are alternative cryptocurrencies to Bitcoin. While Bitcoin is the most well-known and widely used cryptocurrency, there are thousands of other digital currencies available. Altcoins were created to address some of the perceived shortcomings of Bitcoin, such as its slow transaction speed and limited supply. Many altcoins have unique features, such as privacy or security, that differentiate them from Bitcoin. Some of the most popular altcoins include Ethereum, Litecoin, and Ripple.
Altcoins are created through a process called mining, where users compete to solve complex mathematical problems to validate transactions on the network. Altcoins can also be purchased on cryptocurrency exchanges, where users can trade them for other cryptocurrencies or traditional currencies like USD or EUR.
The collapse of Credit Suisse has shaken the confidence of many investors in traditional banking institutions. The financial world is now looking for alternative investment options that can provide higher returns with lower risks. Altcoins have been gaining popularity as an alternative investment option, but the collapse of Credit Suisse has raised concerns about the risks of investing in these newer, less established assets.
While altcoins have many advantages over traditional investments, they are also highly volatile and can be subject to sudden drops in value. The Credit Suisse collapse has highlighted the need for investors to be cautious when investing in these assets and to do their due diligence before committing any funds.
The future of altcoins is uncertain after the Credit Suisse collapse. Many investors are looking for alternative investment options, and altcoins could become more popular as a result. However, the collapse of Credit Suisse has also raised concerns about the risks of investing in these as...

David Byrne Picks Up His Big Suit from the Dry Cleaners and Gets Ready for Stop Making Sense to Return to Theaters "IndyWatch Feed Arts"
First released in 1984, Jonathan Demmes acclaimed concert film Stop Making Sense featured the Talking Heads at the height of their creative and musical powers. The film starts with David Byrne, alone on a bare stage, with a boombox and his big white suit, performing Psycho Killer. Then, with each new song, hes joined by different bandmates and an assemblage of gear and lights, all showing, step-by-step, how a concert gets made. Its an inventive film. And its coming back to theaters this August, restored no less in 4K resolution.

She Told Her Brother Shes More Important Than Him. Is She a Jerk? "IndyWatch Feed Arts"
The woman who wrote this story is 5 months pregnant by a friend of her older brothers.
Shes living with the guy so he can help her out, but it doesnt sound like theyre a romantic couple by the way she phrased things
Read her story below and see if you think she acted like an a**hole.
AITA for telling my brother Im more important than him?
Im 5 months pregnant. The dad, James, is my brothers friend. Since the pregnancy has been rough I moved in with James because he offered to help me.
Usually, his friends all come to his to hang out and play pool. They came over a few days ago and decided they wanted to go out to eat.
I still have really bad nausea so I cant eat most things so James asked me what I wanted to eat.
I picked a place but my brother started complaining and asking James why he had asked me when the rest of them wanted to go get pizza instead.
Nobody else said anything but I was upset by the tone my brother was using so I told him he asked me because I was more important than him. We ended up arguing which James and the rest of their friends found funny.
Now my brother is mad at me for humiliating him in front of his friends and for being immature.
AITA?
And heres what folks had to say on Reddit.
This person said EVERYONE sucks in this story.

8 Unexpected Benefits Of Raising An Empathetic Child "IndyWatch Feed Uncanny"
Empathy is a grossly underrated trait. Empathy is our ability to put ourselves in someones place and to understand what they are experiencing.
Raising empathetic children is important for a number of reasons. While most people assume that empathy is something that is naturally found in us, it is actually a skill that is taught. In order to develop this trait, there are a number of things we must do. Of course, the effort in harnessing this trait benefits your child, you, and the world tenfold.
Here are 8 unexpected benefits of raising an empathetic child.
Empathy is important because it is the backbone of our social skills. Without empathy, it is impossible to be able to connect with others or understand others. If your child has empathy, they will be well-equipped to deal with social interaction and connection.
In order to learn, we must be open. Sometimes, that means being able to put ourselves in the shoes of someone else, even if we do not know them or even agree with them.
Without empathy, there can be no compassion. Children who can put themselves in someone elses situation are far more likely to be compassionate toward their situation.
Emotional intelligence is so important. It is the ability to understand and manage our emotions. It also involves understanding the emotions of others.
If you do not have empathy for others, it may be hard to be tolerant of their different beliefs or values. At the end of the day, what makes us human is our ability to put our differences aside and understand what someone else is going through.
Empathy is important for success, even well into adulthood. In career or professional situations, your child will need to be able to empathize with others in order to establish themselves in their chosen path.
Empathy is a must in relationships. If your child lacks empathy, they will struggle in adult relationships, because they will have a hard time seeing things from their partners perspective. Even before real relationships, empathy is a must for building strong friendships.
Throughout our lives, we have to change, adapt and grow. Empathy is a major part of this. If your child cannot empathize, they will struggle to adapt in life.
7 Signs Of A Toxic Relationship "IndyWatch Feed Uncanny"
If I asked you what the signs of a toxic relationship were, what would you say? Most of us would likely name off something obvious, like abuse or something to that effect, but at the end of the day, the signs of a toxic relationship arent always so overt or even expected.
Being in a toxic relationship can be draining, and destructive, and can change who you are as a person. No one walks away from a toxic relationship unscathed, even if the damage is just slight. With that being said, the signs arent always obvious. Below, I will go over 7 signs of a toxic relationship.
Contempt is what happens when you begin tearing your partner down, or vice versa, in passive-aggressive ways. Based on the research, this habit is the number one predictor of relationship failure. Examples of contempt are mocking your partner while they are in another room, snide remarks, or merely feelings of complete disdain towards your partner.
In a toxic relationship, there is no support. Instead, both partners are always at odds with one another. Rather than building each other up, they are too busy tearing each other down.
It is not cute or healthy for control and obsession to be the main theme in a relationship. When one or both partners begins blowing up the others phone because they didnt answer back within a few minutes, there is a problem. Other examples of this may be if your partner wont allow you around certain people, stalks you down when you arent around one another, or refuses to let you have any time apart because you might cheat.
Toxic relationships arent always toxic people. In fact, a toxic dynamic can be born when two people just simply arent right for one another. When this happens, a toxic push/pull begins to take place, in which both partners are always trying to get their needs met by someone who simply cannot meet them.
Dishonesty is toxic, plain and simple. While we may all say a little white lie here and there, when one or both partners is always lying, it reaches a toxic level.
One major sign of toxicity is denial. Do you find yourself constantly making excuses for your relationship? If so, then its likely toxic.
If you are always having to walk on eggshells, to avoid setting your partner off, then you are likely in a toxic relationship. No one should have to hold back how they really feel, If you cannot express a different opinion in the presence of your partner because you fear retaliation, your relationship is toxic.
Jupiter And Venus Tango Across The Sky This Month & You Dont Want To Miss It! "IndyWatch Feed Uncanny"
If you love stargazing as much as I do, there are going to be plenty of chances to see some beautiful planets this month. While there wont be a major spectacle or anything of that sort, there will be some amazing natural patterns going on that are truly worth checking out.
Perhaps the best thing in the sky this month is Venus and Jupiters dance across the sky. Anyone who was out looking for the past few weeks will probably notice there have been two bright objects low in the West after sunset, and theyve gradually switched places, says Lara Eakins, Public Outreach Program Coordinator at the University of Texas Department of Astronomy.
Over the past few weeks, Jupiter has been higher in the sky, while Venus danced a little lower. However, the two have now swapped places. Soon, the moon will pass the planets by. On the evening of Wednesday, March 22, shortly after sunset, you might be able to catch a very thin crescent moon just above Jupiter.
Then, after the moon is gone, Jupiter will also leave the night sky but will remain visible in the early morning times.
What Jupiter is going to do in the next week or two, its going to go behind the sun from the earths point of view. So we wont be able to see it in our skies at all, because itd be too close to the sun. But then, gradually, youll start to see it emerge in the morning skies, Eakins said.
Additionally, Mars will be observable in the night sky as well. According to Eakins, Mars and Betelgeuse and Aldebaran will form a triangle in the night sky directly overhead. For reference, Betelgeuse can be found if you look near Orion.
The other one is the star Aldebaran, which is in the constellation Taurus. And its part of a V shape of stars. And if you are looking for Mars, simply look for the most vibrant shade of red among the planetary bodies above.

A Light-Hearted History of April Fools Day, an Unofficial Holiday Celebrated Around the World "IndyWatch Feed Arts"
Happy April Fools' Day! Every year on April 1st, fun-loving jokesters dupe, deceive, and play pranks on othersall under the guise of honoring an unofficial holiday.
Have you ever wondered why we have a day dedicated to making mischief? Although pinpointing the exact origin of the humorous holiday is tricky, countries around the world have reveled in their own versions of April Fools' Day for centuries. Here, we sneak a peek at the history of April Fools' Day to understand how it turned into the silly celebration we know and (sometimes) love today.
April Fools' Day is a celebration that takes place annually on April 1st. On this day, people traditionally play practical jokes on each other. A typical April Fools ruse concludes with the trickster revealing their deception, usually by shouting April Fools!
In addition to individuals pulling pranks on one another, it is now customary for mass media to trick their audiences with large-scale hoaxes. This has become particularly popular in the age of the internet and has drawn increased attention to Ap...

GENDER WARS playing cards in progress "IndyWatch Feed Comics"
When a friend recently suggested a deck of playing cards featuring major players in the gender wars, I knew I wanted a set. I tried to find other ways to make it happen photographs? Filters? AI art generator? but decided the most expedient option was to just do it myself. Which isnt particularly expedient, as a deck requires 54 designs (if you include 2 Jokers).
I generally suck at caricatures, but decided my limited skills would have to be adequate. I Can Do Hard Things, just not perfectly.
Working furiously, this week I made the first suit, Hearts. Red suits (hearts and diamonds) will be more-or-less gender critical, and black suits (clubs and spades) will be more-or-less transactivist. If this sounds like inside baseball, it is; thats why my friend suggested a deck in the first place. Ive turned into a gender nerd, and civilians have no idea whom Im referring to when I gossip. Edutainment!
Remembering the Migrants Who Died in US Detention "IndyWatch Feed Arts"
LOS ANGELES In 2014, Jackie Amzquita was looking for her brother. He had recently arrived at the US southern border with his pregnant wife seeking asylum after being kidnapped and extorted in their native Guatemala, but she hadnt heard from him in two weeks. She contacted an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) field office, where an officer recommended she look for his name on an online database of detainees. She found that he had been detained and would remain so for nine months until his request for asylum was approved. (He was released the day after his daughter was born.) While searching for his name, she also stumbled upon a list of detainees who had died in ICE custody since 2003. The most commonly listed countries of birth were Mexico, Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Cuba, but others had come from China, Ghana, Haiti, the Czech Republic and elsewhere.
This list formed the basis of her 2022 MFA thesis exhibition at the University of California, Los Angeles, Gemidos de la Tierra (Wailing of the Land/Soil). She collected dirt from states where migrants lost their lives in detention centers and mixed it with masa (ground corn dough), rainwater, and salt. She then cast letters out of the adobe-like mixture, baked them, and used them to spell out each of the roughly 200 migrants names on large four-by-eight-foot white panels.
Mark Thomas Gibsons Cartoons See the US Going Nowhere "IndyWatch Feed Arts"
Americans dont speak to each other much these days. They yell, stamp their feet, and take positions on everything. A storm cloud of violence is roiling the air. Since January 1, 2023, there have been nearly 100 mass shootings and we still cannot discuss possible solutions in a polite manner, much less agree on what constitutes a massacre. This is one reason why Mark Thomas Gibson is an artist of our time and more: he sees what is going on and has just enough distance to remain civil, and even a tad optimistic. He is able to find human folly in his subject matter. Unlike newscasters and other pundits, he never expresses shock. Instead, he recognizes that there is a pleasure and (so far) safety in the making, which allows him to infuse his work with humor. If Thomas Nast, who is considered the Father of the American Cartoon, has an heir, it is Gibson, who goes one step further and elevates caricature and commentary into art. Such is my impression after visiting his...
Kahori Kamiya Transmutes Grief Into Play "IndyWatch Feed Arts"
Two figures greet viewers entering Long Eclipse at Amos Eno Gallery in Bushwick, the first New York City solo show by Nagoya-born and New York-based multidisciplinary artist Kahori Kamiya.
Blooming Flow is the artists vision of Venus. In 2005, Japans Fuji Sengen Shrine commissioned Kamiya to craft an idol honoring Konohanasakuya-hime, the cherry blossom goddess of Mt. Fuji. Blooming Flow, though, is all the sculptors own. Kamiyas thumb strokes remain imprinted on clay plumes that rise from her bosom, painted with acrylic and metal leaf and dappled with amethyst. A mortal of clay and polyurethane hovers behind her in the wall-mounted OMG.
Long Eclipse presents Kamiyas first body of paintings. The artist earned an MFA in sculpture from Tokyos Nihon University of Art in 2005, and a second MFA in fine arts from the School of Visual Arts in 2009. Her extensive sculpture and performance practice informs the genre-bending paintings across Long Eclipse, particularly the titular work a large scene lined with kimono sashes, selected to represent both the umbilical cord connect...
Maya Deren in Vivid Focus "IndyWatch Feed Arts"
Maya Deren is a postmortem biographers dream subject. Not only did the bohemian dancer, poet, photographer, and filmmaker cross paths with an international whos-who of avant-garde pre- and post-WWII artists, musicians, and filmmakers, she was also an inveterate letter writer, self-documenter, and pack rat, whose archive presents profuse and personal materials. A new biography by Mark Alice Durant, Maya Deren: Choreographed for Camera (Saint Lucy Books, 2022) not only captures the particulars of Derens tragically brief and deeply influential life, but does so with a kind of first-person familiarity and detail that brings a figure captured in a black-and-white film era into vivid focus.
Born in Kiev, Ukraine, in 1917, Deren emigrated to the United States with her family, escaping the encroaching politics that took issue with both her Jewish ancestry and her familys academic pedigree. Though only 44 in 1961, when she was suddenly taken by a cerebral hemorrhage, Deren...

Artists and activist Faith Ringgold, photographer and philanthropist Susan Unterberg, and literary critic Helen Hennesy Vendler have received the highest honors from the American Academy of Arts and Letters for their contributions to the arts. The announcement comes a week after eight artists Emily Jacir, Tala Madani, Mary Miss, Lorraine OGrady, Sandy Rodriguez, Cameron Rowland, Cauleen Smith, and Ouattara Watts received this years art awards. In a statement shared with Hyperallergic, the Academy notes that all three female honorees are artists and advocates in the field. AITA for telling my SIL that no one in our family is named Stephanie?
I cant figure out if I did anything wrong, or if so, what, because I honestly have no idea whats going on. Hopefully someone here can give me a clue. Heres the relevant info, as far as I know.
My brother and his wife are expecting their first girl after two boys. I love Ricky and Jace, and so does my SIL, but she has always wanted a girl and is very excited to be having one. She also wants to name the girl Chloe, as she loves that name. My brother h**es the name Chloe and really wants to name their daughter Stephanie. They have been arguing about it for a few weeks, since finding out the gender.
I got to my parents house late last night and my SIL was the only person still awake. We talked for a little bit, and she asked me the weirdest question. She asked me if I knew any stories about great aunt Stephanie. I was so confused. I literally said who?
SIL clarified that she was talking about our grandmothers older sister that died when grandma was a little girl. Our grandma had two sisters, but their names were Judy and Lynn. Theres no one in our family named Stephanie, as far as I know. I told as much to my SIL. She changed the subject after that, and we soon went to bed.
This morning my brother and his wife were both sulking during breakfast. Even the kids could tell. Ricky kept saying stop being grumpy on Christmas. So it wasnt just my imagination.

Who Was Josef Albers? Learn About the Artist Whose Interaction of Color Still Endures Today "IndyWatch Feed Arts"
Working with color is a challenge. It goes beyond selecting eye-pleasing hues; color is relative and changes depending on what it's placed next to. Having an understanding of its powerand how to achieve the color relationships you wantis vital for any practicing artist. For many creatives, the work of Josef Albers was essential to their understanding of color in a new and fascinating way.
The 20th-century artist and Bauhaus educator created abstract works that explore the relationship between hues via simple forms. He was an accomplished artist and produced many pieces in his studio that are in museums today. Albers was also a college professor whose teachings live on through his 1963 book titled Interaction of Color. The seminal text recorded Albers experimental way of studying color and teaching it.

Paleontologists Discover Fossil of an Enormous 340-Pound Penguin in New Zealand "IndyWatch Feed Arts"
Penguins are fascinating creatures. They come in a variety of sizes, live in diverse habitats, and are undeniably adorable. The penguin species of the past were no less interesting. A recent paper in the Journal of Paleontology has announced the discovery of the biggest ancient penguin yet, a 340-pound behemoth that frolicked around New Zealand more than 50 million years ago. Newly named Kumimanu fordycei, the giant species was discovered alongside several other ancient skeletons of seabirds inside boulders along the seashore.
The enormous species was discovered by Alan Tennyson, a paleontologist at the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa, in seaside boulders which had split open. Excavations revealed the K. fordycei fossil among a flock of five Petradyptes stonehousei, another new species. A specimen of Kumimanu biceae, a previously discovered giant penguin species, and the bones of smaller unnamed species were also discovered. Tennyson and his team scanned the bones with lasers to compare their flipper sizes with those of other flying and diving birds. Flipper size allowed for the estimation of the birds' sizes.
The magnificent K. fordycei has set a new record; the previous title was held by the 256-pound Palaeeudyptes klekowskii, a species found about 37 million years ago in Antarctica. The other new species discovered in New Zealand is also quite large, although at 110 pounds it is not much larger than an average modern Emperor penguin.
K. fordyceis massive size came at an interesting time in penguin evolution. Around 60 million years ago, penguins lost their a...

Our Moon Is Slowly Moving Away From Earth a Little Bit Each Year "IndyWatch Feed Arts"
The Moon is a central fixture of our sky, lighting the night and sometimes even showing its grey face in daylight hours. Slivers, halves, and full moons humans have tracked the cycle of the celestial body for millennia. Yet the familiar movements of the Moon have not always been those we observe each night in modern times. The Moon used to be much closer to Earth billions of years ago, and even today it is still moving away from Earth at a rate of 3.8 centimeters per year, as NASA discovered in 1994.
When Apollo 11 landed on the Moon in 1969, the astronauts placed a reflector array in the region of the Moon's surface known as the Sea of Tranquillity. The reflector is made of fused silica half-cubes, called corner cubes, mounted in a square aluminum panel. When laser beams are directed at it from Earth, they bounce back off the reflector to be collected by scientific instruments on our planet. Lunar ranging involves sending a laser beam through an optical telescope, Dr. Jean Dickey said in 1994. The beam enters the telescope where the eye piece would be, and the transmitted beam is expanded to become the diameter of the main mirror, then bounced off the surface toward the reflector on the Moon. Through this process, NASA calculated the distance between Earth and the Moon at a given time.
By tracking distance data, astronomers came to discover that the Moon is, in fact, drifting away from Earth as it orbits. The distance between the two expands by 3.8 centimeters per year. However, this rate cannot have held constant since the ...

Dog With an Adorable Pout Smiled With Her Forever Family After 411 Days in a Shelter "IndyWatch Feed Arts"
When it comes to funny dog faces, there are some who have derpy smiles while a few look permanently concerned. And now, there is a pup who seems to have a permanent pout. Mixed with her big eyes, this canine named Siri has Puss in Boots' big eyes energy, making everyone want to please her every wish. And although finding her dream family took longer than expected, she just got her happy ending after spending 411 days at the SPCA of Wake County.
Siri's road to finally having a forever home began with a heartbreaking post from the SPCA team. It hurts our hearts to see her passed over day after day. Even as one of the sweetest, most gentle dogs at SPCA Wake, she is the longest resident here, reads the Facebook post. Thing is, Siri is an absolute doll. She's calm, easy-going, polite, and has an absolutely adorable pout.
The sweet pup was surrendered by her original owners in December 2021. She had lived her whole life outside and spent her days with a dog friend; however, when they started to fight over food, the family realized they could no longer live together. Despite being a calm dog who loves snuggles, she could no longer feel comfortable around other dogs. This became an obstacle for rehoming her, as she would only be able to thrive in a house free of other dogs, cats (since Siri chases them away), and kids, as they can be unpredictable. In over 13 months, she had 11 people express interest in adopting her, but all of them, unfortunately, fell through, Samantha Ranlet, marketing communications specialist at SPCA of Wake County, said.
In a demonstration of the power of the internet, Siri's sad tale reached half a million people, and in a matter of time, the perfect family came along. After 411 days, SIRI IS ADOPTED! We can't stop smiling!!! This wonderful couple heard Siri's story and fe...

Ashwagandha: The Game-Changing Supplement for Men! "IndyWatch Feed Survival"
In this video, youll learn about the remarkable health benefits of
ashwagandha for men. While its well-known for womens health,
ashwagandha also offers great benefits for men.
It helps the body deal with stress, improves sleep quality, increases testosterone levels, energy, strength, and endurance, promotes muscle growth, helps metabolize food better, decreases body fat, and improves blood sugar levels. It also lowers the risk of diabetes, joint health, and inflammation, improves cognitive function, memory, blood circulation, cardiovascular health, and contributes to a better mood.
Ashwagandha even helps with male fertility and erectile dysfunction. To choose the best ashwagandha supplement, make sure it contains at least 30% whitanolide, the active ingredient that provides the amazing health benefits. Choose a reputable company that uses good manufacturing practices to ensure the supplement is free from impurities.
Ashwagandha usually takes effect within a few weeks to a month of ingestion, and the recommended dose is 300-500 mg per day, taken with meals. Ashwagandha is considered safe for most men when taken at the recommended dosage, but talk to your doctor before taking it if youre on certain medications.
Remember, the most common side effects are gastrointestinal discomfort such as nausea, diarrhea, and stomach pain.

Without Democracy, Bitcoin Will Fail "IndyWatch Feed Crypto"
Despite its apolitical nature, Bitcoin needs our democracy to thrive just as much as our democracy needs Bitcoin to improve.
This is an opinion editorial by Frank Kashner, founder of UnChainDemocracy.org.
Politics are often defined as the activities associated with the governance of a country or other area, especially the debate or conflict among individuals or parties having or hoping to achieve power.
Do we wish for Bitcoin to achieve power? Yes, though power for Bitcoin is different from power for one person or an economic or political entity. But we are still talking about power, as expressed through the design and implementation of code, proof of (electrical power) work, the internet, exchanges, editorials, blogs, laws, courts, schools and politicians. The Blocksize War, which I lived through, was ultimately a political-power conflict, won by those in favor of node decentralization. This article and this magazine are themselves political actors in the contest for future monetary and political power.
Ultimately, monetary freedom, Bitcoin, is just one aspect of freedom. For those living in the U.S., another aspect of freedom is our political rights as outlined in the Bill of Rights and Constitution. As such, even our terribly-flawed democracy is worth defending and extending.
But it seems that many Bitcoiners dont see it that way. For instance, Jimmy Song, who I respect and have learned from, has opined that, maybe, our democracy is so flawed that it deserves to be abandoned. But I suggest that Bitcoin and democracy need each other and that the alternative, autocracy, would be horrible.
A friend recently pointed out that our current political divide can be seen as one between those focused on freedom and those focused on equality. Like two points on a line, we in the Bitcoin community can find unity around similar visions of what Bitcoin in a democracy makes possible. But we also need to look at the relationship between Bitcoin and democracy and imagine the dark alternative: living in an autocracy that is able to seize our property and violate our other rights.
In 1941, a time of great political conflict, in his work Talking Columbia, Woody Guthrie famously sang, Don't like dictators, n...

The Honest Trailer for The Goonies might shatter a few of your childhood memories "IndyWatch Feed Satire"
Since former child star Ke Huy Quan won an Oscar for his supporting role in Everything Everywhere All at Once, the spotlight has shone on his early work, particularly Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, California Man and The Goonies.
That last one has finally fallen under the gaze of the funny lot at Screen Junkies, who have made it the subject of one of their hilarious and brutal Honest Trailers.
Revisit the film everyone remembers for its incredible pirate ship set, Spielbergian mix of humour and horror and one of Cyndi Laupers greatest bops while overlooking how it takes forever before anything fun happens, is chock-full of product placement and relies on a cheap wink to the directors other superhero films for the big emotional payoff.
It looks like they did this one not a moment too soon.

Black Metal Parents Keep Pestering Daughter to Give Them Grandkids to Sacrifice "IndyWatch Feed Satire"
FRENCH LICK, Ind. Local black metal parents Suzanne and Dmitri Ubnatern are persistent in asking their 30-year-old daughter to give them grandchildren to metaphorically sacrifice, hesitant sources confirmed.
I just want to be blessed with grandkids so I can finally know what its like to truly love a child. Also, we need to sacrifice something in the name of metal every now and then to keep up appearances, said the father of three. Sure, I dont mean traditional sacrifice in an Old Testament sense. No one does that anymore. Instead, Im thinking in terms of applying corpse paint to the babys face and blasting nothing but brutal metal from Norway as a way to indoctrinate them into what I like. With children, I always find it easier to push your own interests onto them. That being said, our daughter should really be thinking about us and our needs from time to time.
Maxine Ubnatern was not having any of her parents requests to reproduce.
Im very much turned off by the idea of having kids right now and its not just because my parents keep using words like ritualistic and sacrificial when they ask, said the child-free daughter. Im just not ready emotionally, mentally, and financially to raise anything. Maybe Ill be all caught up and mature enough by the time Im in my 70s. Besides, why cant my parents be normal music fans where no one is ceremonially offered up to a divine spirit of metal? I would almost prefer they be super into Rush. Say what you will about the prog rock community, but not one of them is sacrificing humans in their spare time.
Family counselor Doug Framerson sees this sort of relational clash all the time.
Parents kind of need to let their adult children make their own life-altering decisions, said Framerson. Either that or let the economy make it for them, which is more typically the case nowadays. You see, more and more young people are not so much choosing not to have kids, but having that choice made for them thanks to unaffordable housing, stagnant wages, and a blistering combination of student, medical, and consumer debts. Long gone are the days when you can raise a bunch of kids on one salary.
At press time, the Ubnatern parents decided to pivot and ask their daughter when shes going to get married to a tall, dark, and handsome metalhead.

Quiz: Is Your Mustache Sleazy Enough To Be a Photographer? "IndyWatch Feed Satire"
Imposter syndrome is a real thing and can prevent you from achieving your dreams, no matter how weird and stupid they are. Too many people have failed to realize their disgusting aims because they feel unsure if theyre really terrible enough.
If you have worries that your gross mustache is not sleazy enough for you to be a photographer whose studio is just their efficiency apartment, youre in luck!
Take The Hard Times mustache quiz and figure out if your facial hair has what it takes to make people very uncomfortable while you pretend to adjust a lens!
Is your mustache way too obsessively over-groomed or is
it disgustingly unkempt?
A qualifying mustache is either wheedled out into the finest of wax
points or has barbecue chip fragments in it. Nothing in
between.
Does your mustache obscure your tongue as you frequently
and lingeringly lick your lips at your model?
Mustache length can vary from scumbag to scumbag, but the
appropriate growth for someone going into a career entirely
facilitated by Craigslist posts and promises that this will be
great for a models resume must not exceed one-half of the upper
lip.
Have you ever described your mustache as a real
party-stopper and a panty-dropper?
Eww. Just move on to the next question. Jesus.
Are you John Waters?
While Mr. Waters is generally known best as a celebrated filmmaker
and raconteur, his experience in conceptual photography-based art
installments and the best mustache ever qualifies him for anything.
We salute you, Mr. Waters.
Quick: is your mustache ironic, post-ironic, or
post-modern?
Pretty much any of these descriptions applied to a mustache are
sufficient to guarantee that you are a colossal dirtbag, and
therefore basically Ansel Adams.
Does your mustache hide dark secrets which must never be
known?
Truly, the facial hair one chooses to display to the word is a
statement. But is that statement merely a facade, a smokescreen to
disguise the terrible acts that you have performed and will
continue to perform, regardless of what you tell yourself at night?
If so, congratulations, youre a photographer!

Aging Punk Confuses Equal Vision Logo for QR Code "IndyWatch Feed Satire"
NEW BEDFORD, Mass. 38-year-old punk Eli Collum once again hovered his phones camera over the old-school Equal Vision logo thinking it was a QR code to access a brunch menu, disappointed sources confirmed.
It took me about three solid minutes to realize my mistake. I thought something was wrong with my phone at first, I quit all the apps I had open, and then I realized Id been pointing my phone at the back of a used 108 record I just copped at Purchase Street, said Collum while forcefully blinking his eyes. But I guess it all makes sense. I always thought it was confusing that Hare Krishnas had such a big influence over the hardcore scene, and now 30 years later Krishna is still fucking me up. But maybe this is a sign I finally need to get glasses.
Collums longtime girlfriend Lisa Packer noticed his mistake immediately, but didnt want to embarrass him in public.
A lot of the places we eat got rid of hard copies of their menus during Covid so we are used to scanning QR codes before ordering. I tried to lead by example and show Eli the QR code on his placemat, but he just sat there getting more and more frustrated, said Packer. He started grumbling like a jaded grandfather about how technology is trying to kill him and how things were so much easier back in 2004. But honestly I dont even know why he pretends to look at the menu, he always orders chocolate chip pancakes no matter where we are. Hes pretty stuck in his ways.
Equal Vision founder Ray Cappo says he does not understand why anyone is confused by the logo.
Anyone can see the logo is a divine deity. If your eyesight is failing you its probably because your parents gave you poisonous vaccines as a child, said Cappo, also known as Raghunath Das, before doing 15 push-ups and locking into a Mayurasana. Human eyeballs should work with complete clarity for at least 150 years. Only outside toxins can cloud your vision, and if you open your third eye you will be able to see past this world into eternity and beyond. Also, Youth of Today will be playing Brazil next March and we will have some exclusive merch for the tour you dont want to miss.
Friends fear Collums other senses might also be failing him after he reportedly said I went back and listened to an old H2O record and it wasnt that bad.

Review: Wipers Over the Edge "IndyWatch Feed Satire"
This is an album I was excited to revisit, not only because Ive been a Wipers fan since college, but also because for the past few weeks, Ive been stuck plant-sitting for my eccentric neighbor while they try to set the world record for being in the background crowd at Good Morning America most consecutive days. Good luck, Mr. Lanford! Were all watching!
Anyway, I heard somewhere music is essential for plant livelihood, so I made sure to drop the needle on the record in the vicinity of Mr. Lanfords prized venus fly trap. Well, we didnt even make it to Doom Town before that thing started growing ten feet tall and gaining the gift of speech. I was amazed, but really, when you think about it, thats the power of music!
By the time we got to Romeo, it started begging me to feed it, so naturally I gave it all the human blood I could find (there were lots of jars of it in Mr. Lanfords basement, I assume for emergencies like this.) It spit it out with disgust and chided me for assuming it wanted blood to eat, sarcastically referring to itself as the venus blood trap for the rest of the conversation. I guess I have a lot of learning to do.
As No One Wants an Alien cranked through the speaker system, I frantically scrambled to find some flies for the increasingly irritable vegetation. I couldnt locate any! (Well, ok, I found a few, but I had worked up quite the hunger myself from rushing around, so) Well, long story short, I realized there was an airport across the street (not sure why I hadnt noticed it before, the plane sounds drowned out most of the record so far.) And it didnt take me long to convince the plant that the planes were actually big ol juicy flies, ready for the eating.
The venus fly trap gave me a hearty earful about proper greenhouse management, over the din of both No Generation Gap and the aircrafts taking off, and lifted itself up by the roots and dragged itself across the street to dine like a king. By the time the record was over, that thing was housing a 747 at an altitude of 35,000 feet. I couldnt help but salute.
I still think my statement about the power of music holds up. We should play this album in the Amazon rainforest and see if we cant get a few more miles of greenery back up and running. Just remember to re-route any air traffic.
Score: 14/76 days before Mr. Lanford breaks the record. Confident Ill replace the plant by then.

Saudi Islamic Scholars Debate Death Penalty for Ex-Muslims on TV "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"
Saudi Arabian channel Rotana Khalijiah TV released a show where Saudi religious scholars discussed apostasy in Islam and its punishment.
Aired last March 2, the show presented sides from two Islamic scholars, Ahmed Al-Ghamdi and Abd Al-Rahman Abd Al-Karim.

MEMRI (@MEMRIReports) March 10, 2023
Al-Ghamdi, the former head of the Mecca chapter of the Authority for Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, argued that people are free to choose whether they will adhere to Islam and shouldnt be forced to do so.
People who do not adhere to the Islamic faith are free to do so. They must not be coerced, he said.
He also said the same thing regarding Muslims who left the religion. Apostasy is widely regarded as a hudud crime in many Muslim countries, where punishments under Islamic law are mandated and fixed by Allah as per Islam.
There are unambiguous verses in the Quran regarding their freedom to do so. Allah said [in the Quran:], 'There is no coercion in religion. Al-Ghamdi said, citing the famous verse 256 of the second surah or chapter of the Quran.
This is an unambiguous verse, and it applies to an converted and then became apostates. They are free to do so, as Allah made it clear in the verse, 'There is no coercion in religion, he said, reiterating his previous argument.
"There isn't an explicit verse in the Quran saying that an apostate should be killed as a punishment for his apostasy." Al-Ghamdi concluded.
But Abd Al-Rahman Abd Al-Karim of the Saudi Fiqh Association has a different argument regarding the punishment for apostasy in Islam.
He claims that most Islamic schools of jurisprudence, such as the Shfi and anaf schools, agree that the death penalty should be the punishment for apostates of Islam. Abd Al-Karim also cited the Prophet Muhammad regarding apostasy.
"There has been consensus among Islamic jurisprudents about the punishment for apostasy. First of all, according to a hadith, the Prophet Muhammad sai...

Is She Wrong for Not Letting Her Brother Use the Shower? Heres What People Said. "IndyWatch Feed Arts"
Sorry, the showers all mine
I grew up in a house with five kids and there were definitely times when someone was hogging a shower and not letting anyone else get in there before school or work.
It was a real power struggle, let me tell ya
So is this teenage girl an a**hole for not letting her brother use the shower?
Read on to get all the details and see what you think
AITA for not letting my brother use the shower?
I (16f) do my makeup in the morning because its something that forces me out of bed. My brother (12m) prefers to shower in the morning.
This morning I was in our shared bathroom doing my makeup when he blew up at me, saying my hygiene is more important than your looks. I dont think he meant to hurt me but I fired back telling him if he cared so much maybe he should take a shower at night.
He refused and said that he would attract germs in his bed. I offered to help him change his sheets every week so he didnt feel grimey but he said he HAD to shower in the morning so he could go to school.
The second part of this is my brother taking a shower EVERY single morning wastes time. He refuses to set an alarm so I end up waking him up when I wake up. Theres about 20 minutes of time while I get dressed and brush my hair and wake up that he could have time to shower, but hes still sleeping during that time.
On top of all of this my father and I are still making his lunch. He knows how to make his lunch, he just takes a shower and ends up late for his bus so he cries because he doesnt have his lunch and hes going to starve. Ive tried to explain that theres an hour between when he wakes up and hes supposed to be completely...

How Statins, Pesticides, Wireless Radiation Affect Your Heart "IndyWatch Feed Health"
Editors Note: This article is a reprint. It was originally published January 28, 2018.
One in 4 Americans over the age of 45 is on a statin drug to lower their cholesterol. Are these drugs really as bad as some of the evidence suggests or might they be even worse than suspected? Stephanie Seneff, Ph.D., is a senior research scientist at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) whom Ive interviewed on a number of occasions.
Shes an absolute treasure trove of valuable health information. Here, we discuss statin drugs, which are also featured in her fictional book, Cindy and Erica's Obsession to Solve the Healthcare Crisis in America, for which I wrote the foreword. The story, while fictional, is based on Seneffs own life and passion for science, and delves into autism, Alzheimers, statins, vaccines, glyphosate and more.
In this interview, we focus on another book, The Dark Side of Statins: Plus, the Wonder of Cholesterol,1 the last one written by Dr. Duane Graveline, who himself was a victim of statin side effects and died from complications related to statin use. Seneffs husband was also severely affected by statins, which triggered her scientific exploration into these popular drugs.
He really changed my career by getting sick, she says. He was diagnosed with heart disease 10 years ago and put on a high-dose statin four times the normal dosage. The doctor said, You have to take this for the rest of your life. If you don't, I will no longer be your doctor. And he immediately started suffering from side effects muscle pains and weakness; even the road rage and behavioral changes.
I just knew this drug wasn't working and I started researching statins ... In fact, I started doing it as part of my work at MIT. I started analyzing statin side effects and finding all kinds of horrible things. He got off them after a year. He slowly tapered it down and I'm happy to say he's statin free and doing great at this point, 10 years later. His doctors keep on reminding him [to go back on a statin] and he keeps on telling them no, politely.
As noted by Seneff, its pretty easy to overestimate the benefits of statins by confusing people with absolute and relative risk. This is a statistical trick used quite frequently to demonstrate drug effectiveness. Seneff...
Why KAATSU Is a Fitness Game Changer "IndyWatch Feed Health"
Blood flow restriction (BFR) training, which I perceive to be the greatest innovation in exercise training in the last century, was developed in Japan by Dr. Yoshiaki Sato in 1966. There, it's known as KAATSU, which means "additional pressure." KAATSU was brought to the U.S. just over a decade ago by Steven Munatones, after he completed a 13-year mentorship by Sato.
In summary, BFR involves partially obstructing blood flow to your extremities while exercising. This intermittent hypoxia generates an increase in anti-inflammatory myokines, the muscle beneficial hormonal responses.
Aside from dramatically improving muscle tone and preventing sarcopenia (age-related muscle loss), KAATSU is also a wonderful tool for post-surgical rehabilitation, allowing you to regain physical function in a fraction of the time that you would normally anticipate.
Importantly, it will also improve your metabolic flexibility, so that you can seamlessly transition between burning fat and glucose as your primary fuel. It does this by increasing the number of glucose transporters, which absorb and lower your blood sugar in your cell membranes. As a result, your insulin level won't go up and you won't develop insulin resistance.
KAATSU is really a specific type of BFR therapy, as it uses a device that automatically inflates and deflates the cuffs you place around your extremities. "Conventional" BFR uses static pressure from elastic or inflatable bands, and while that can provide benefits when used correctly, KAATSU is far superior for several reasons, which we'll review here.
One of the reasons I'm so excited about KAATSU is it's ability to help build muscle mass and prevent sarcopenia. Sarcopenia is a progressive decline in muscle mass as you age, primarily due to the decrease in blood flow supply to muscle stem cells which are called satellite cells.
When your satellite cells don't get the nourishment they require, it becomes very difficult to build muscle. Once you are over 50, this is always working against you, even if you're doing hardcore resistance training. KAATSU solves this problem. It increases the blood supply to your satellite stem cells, which provides the necessary metabolic support needed to increase muscle protein synthesis and grow your muscles.
KAATSU has the added benefit of allowing older people, like me, to engage in relatively aggressive exercise with a...
Why Molecular Hydrogen Is a Superior Antioxidant "IndyWatch Feed Health"
In this interview, repeat guest Tyler LeBaron, MSc., Ph.D., reviews some of the many benefits of molecular hydrogen (H2). Perhaps most importantly, molecular hydrogen acts as a selective antioxidant, meaning it doesn't indiscriminately suppress free radicals.
It uses your body's own biological systems and feedback loops to identify where and when you're under oxidative stress, and when found, antioxidant genes are stimulated and key antioxidants are transcribed from your DNA. So, molecular hydrogen is not in and of itself a direct radical-scavenging antioxidant. Rather, it helps your body make its own endogenous antioxidants. This is what makes molecular hydrogen so unique.
This is crucial because excessive antioxidants use can be deleterious and molecular hydrogen serves as a redox regulator, so, just like Goldilocks, you get just the right amount, not too much and not too little, which makes your cells very happy.
One of the pathways activated by H2 when free radicals are present is the Nrf2 pathway. LeBaron explains:
"In your cell you have this protein, Nrf2, and it's attached to Keap1. They're always attached together. But when you get oxidative stress it can cleave off.
[Oxidative stress] causes the cleaving off of the Nrf2 and the Keap1, and the Nrf2 can then diffuse into the nucleus [where] it binds to the ARE, the antioxidant response element of the DNA. [This triggers] the production of all these endogenous antioxidants Phase 2 enzymes of detoxification and antioxidation and there are over 200 of them."
This is one of the primary benefits of molecular hydrogen. It's also what makes molecular hydrogen so useful for such a wide variety of conditions. According to LeBaron, it's been shown to have therapeutic benefits in more than 170 different animal disease models.
"What this means is, for example, there are lots of ways to induce diabetes in an animal model. Using these different models, we can show molecular hydrogen has therapeutic effects. And, yes, the Nrf2 in some cases seems to be extremely important. In fact, by using gene knockout or or interfering RNA, you can blunt the benefits of molecular hydrogen. So, the Nrf2 is very important," LeBaron says.
Sulforaphane, found in broccoli, is another well-studied Nrf2 activator. But in contrast to sulforaphane (as well as other Nrf2 activators), molecular hydrogen does not disturb redox homeostasis within the cell by adding too many antioxidants.

Observations from the Edge "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"
The case of Jeffery Younger is an appalling example of an insidious social virus that threatens to devour our civilization. Youngers predicament truly constitutes the stuff that nightmares are made of and it should rattle the cage of fathers everywhere.
James Younger, the defenseless youngster in this case of sanctioned abuse, is the child of Jeff Younger and his ex-wife Dr. Anne Georgulas. Jeff has seemingly exhausted every avenue within the framework of our legal system to rescue his boy from the predatory grip of the bio-mother.
Dr. Georgulas, the estranged wife, intends to chemically castrate their boy James, and over the years shes laid the groundwork for the boys transition. Even before the dissolution of their marriage, the sadistic doctor groomed their son by devious manipulation and bullying him into self-identifying as a girl.
Is this how far our society has devolved?
A women has the authority to exterminate the life she shares with a man, at her discretion and as late as its birth. The mother, alone, will decide if the childs permitted to exist and NOW will determine the childs sex as well.
In Youngers case, he should have realized what she was capable of doing and never lassoed that lil piggy in. This is why women were traditionally relegated to the kitchen, they should be seen not heard and maybe run a comb thru that hair, every so often.
This information should alarm every level-headed American.
This is precisely why human history has relegated women to the kitchen and baby-making machines because they cannot effectively wield power.

The Democrats and the Left Resort to New Tactics to Escape Prosecution! "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"
Trump Expects to be Arraigned by Tuesday for what?
With all the illegalities and unconstitutional chaos being unleashed by the Democrats upon America we now have a new strategy the leftists are using to stonewall and delay legal consequences. What happened when suspicions were more than plausible after the stolen Presidential Elections of 2020? Despite the incredible visual evidence of camera footage showing invisible ballots being brought out after poll workers had been excused for the night, despite truckloads of harvested ballots being brought in at all hours of the morning to several polling facilities in Pennsylvania and other states, despite irregularities in demographics of the typical trends recorded in voting districts before, and despite 2 Dominion machines being tested and giving corrupt results, what happened. Dominion as a smoke screen files law suits against Fox, the Bannon War Room, Project Veritas, and many others who questioned the integrity of the vote tabulation company.
Democrat causes are well funded by donors
Being served a multi-million dollar law suit for allegations of fraud will certainly slow up an investigation and even discourage it if the party doesnt have the funds to pay for legal fees or potential damages. This is a delaying tactic as well hoping to get to the point where a statute of limitations can nullify charges. I ask why the Democrats on a regular basis can get away with false allegations of criminality when their long term investigations yield nothing, but no one holds their feet to the fire for defamation, slander, or liable? It seems the most evil political faction in America is immune the very law it is constantly trying to impose upon those they dont want in office like Donald J. Trump.
Persistent lies
After 6 years and millions of dollars spent on trying to find some law that Trump has broken, still the Democrats refuse to cease and desist. The Magic of Italian Trulli "IndyWatch Feed Diy"
On the heel of Italys boot, small stone huts with conical rock-covered roofs can be seen scattered among the olive trees. These are called trulli and can be found throughout the Itria Valley, where there are approximately 50,000 of them, especially in the town of Alberobello, where there are roughly 1,500 of them.
Some trulli stand alone, while others are clustered together along the towns cobbled lanes transformed into residences, shops, restaurants and even boutique hotels. Today, the trulli of Alberobello are a Unesco World Heritage site.
Trulli are products of the Messapian culture which settled there during the Iron Age (1200-550 BCE). Although there is no clear consensus on when the first trulli were built, most sources agree the oldest are several thousand years old.
Trulli initially were built to serve as temporary field shelters for shepherds and animals, especially during the heat of the summer, and were constructed from stones that locals removed from the rocky soil to plant olives trees and grape vines. Over time, these huts began to function as storage spaces for farm equipment as well as permanent homes for farmers and small-scale landowners.

Woman Asks if Shes Wrong for Refusing to Dye Her Daughters Hair Because Her School Complained "IndyWatch Feed Arts"
Why do some teachers and school administrators get all bent out of shape when it comes to what colors the hair of their students happens to be?
Its weird!
But some schools take it more seriously than otherscheck out this story from a parent who wants to know if they were out of line when it came to a controversy regarding their daughters dyed hair.
AITA for refusing to dye my daughters hair because her school complained?
My daughter(15F) dyed her hair dark reddish brown for her birthday.I didnt let her dye her hair in middle school but said she could in high school.
The school has a dress code for hair that just specified natural hair colors only. Which I took to mean browns, blondes, reds, black etc basically natural tones. Her natural hair is black but I dont think its much of a change. The hairdresser that did a bleaching on her hair said it was not lighten enough to cause significant damage.
But then one of the teachers in the beginning of the oct last year began complaining to me during parent teacher meetings that her hair didnt meet dress code. I said her hair color grew out of peoples heads so why was it out of dress code?
She told me it was clearly not her natural color and I shot back tons of her students that I saw that evening had blonde hair and highlights when they clearly natural brunettes. She claimed they look like they could be blonde but my daughters hair was suppose to be black.
My daughter is Asian so its pretty racist to say she cant dye her hair and I brought it up with the principle but he agreed with her saying it was against dress code. But I saw tons of white kids in her class with obviously brown hair that dyed it blonde and even red but no one said anything. They want me to darken her hair a...

The Value of Being Wrong: Lewis Thomas on Generative Mistakes "IndyWatch Feed Arts"
We know that life is the self-correcting mechanism for error as much in its evolutionary history as in its existential reality. And yet we are living our lives under the tyranny of perfection, as if all the right answers await us at the end of some vector we must follow infallibly until we arrive at the ultimate ideal. But the truth is that we simply dont know we dont know where life ultimately leads, we dont know what we want or what to want, and we dont really know ourselves. It is by erring again and again that we find the shape of the path, by tripping again and again that we learn to walk it. Along the way, the answers emerge not before us but in us.
Van Gogh knew this when he reckoned with how inspired mistakes propel us forward, and the poetic scientist Lewis Thomas (November 25, 1913December 3, 1993) knew it when he composed his wonderful essay To Err Is Human, found in his 1979 collection The Medusa and the Snail (public library) one of my all-time favorite books.

Every single day there are more twists and turns to this new banking panic. In fact, we just learned that the big banks have gotten together to save First Republic. That is good news because the collapse of First Republic would have been a major catastrophe.
But First Republic is just one in a very long list of banks that are in very serious jeopardy. For months, I relentlessly warned that our financial system could not handle higher interest rates. It was inevitable that financial institutions would start to break, and that is precisely what has happened. We are in far more trouble than most people realize, and we are still only in the very early chapters of this crisis.
Initially, there were rumors that a buyer was being sought for First Republic, but instead the too big to fail banks agreed on a plan to deposit a total of 30 billion dollars into the troubled institution
A group of financial institutions has agreed to deposit $30 billion in First Republic Bank in whats meant to be a sign of confidence in the banking system, the banks announced Thursday afternoon.
Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Citigroup and JPMorgan Chase will contribute about $5 billion apiece, while Goldman Sachs and Morgan Stanley will deposit around $2.5 billion, the banks said in a news release. Truist, PNC, U.S. Bancorp, State Street and Bank of New York Mellon will deposit about $1 billion each.
They have all agreed to keep that money in First Republic for at least 120 days, and you can read the joint press release that they issued right here.
Needless to say, executives at First Republic are greatly relieved. So much money had been pulled out of the bank in recent days, and at one point on Thursday the stock was selling...
Arrest Warrant Issued for Vladimir Putin by the ICC "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"
Do these world organization warrants mean anything at all? George Soros's own home town of Czechoslovakia issued a warrant for his arrest years ago and nothing has happened, as a matter of fact, one of his election campaign funded district attorneys is now being allowed to arrest Donald Trump even when the Feds refuse to touch that warrant. The world has become a joke went it comes to illegal and frivolous litigation!

A gunman in Germany stormed and fired bullets inside a building used by the Jehovahs Witnesses in Hamburg on the evening of March 9th, killing seven people and injuring many others before taking his own life.
Seven people were killed in a mass shooting at a Jehovahs Witnesses hall in northern Germany, local police said https://t.co/s8zXiGUnuv
The Wall Street Journal (@WSJ) March 10, 2023
The mass shooting incident happened at a Jehovahs Witnesses Kingdom Hall near an auto repair shop, a modern and squarish building close to the city center of Germanys second biggest city.
Hamburg authorities believed the suspect acted alone in the incident. Local media reported that a specialized armed unit of the citys police was already near the scene at around 9:15 PM when they heard gunshots from the building. The authorities then responded and entered the building while the attack was ongoing.
According to police spokesperson Holger Vehren, police officers found victims with gunshot wounds on the ground floor of the building after they quickly arrived at the scene. They heard a shot on the upper floor and discovered the fatally wounded shooter, possibly attempting to take his own life.
Although police did not use their weapons during the shooting, their intervention likely prevented further loss of life. The shootout claimed the lives of eight people and wounded many others, including a woman who was 28 weeks pregnant and lost the baby to the incident. All of the victims were German citizens except for two women, who held Ugandan and Ukrainian citizenship.

A New Zealand church leader is under fire for suggesting that Cyclone Gabrielle, a storm that recently devastated New Zealand and parts of Australia, was caused by homosexuality and pornography.
Like it or not, there is no denying that Cyclone Gabrielle is an ACT OF GOD.
And who better to talk about an Act of God, than a Man of God!

Brian Tamaki of the Destiny Church made the controversial comments through an hour-long sermon live-streamed on Facebook. During the sermon, the self-styled apostle described Cyclone Gabrielle as an act of God brought by the moral depravity and degradation of porn users, which he concluded after spending hours watching porn.
Aside from blaming the tragedy on abortions, the far-right fundamentalist leader and activist also claimed that the storm hardest hit the towns of Gisborne and Hastings in New Zealand because they have the highest number of porn watchers in the country.
Tamaki backed up his wild claims by saying he hopped on a porn site to research the perversion linked to bad weather.

According to the New Zealand Herald, Tamaki was heard saying: That city in there, Hastings and Gisborne, has the highest number of porn watchers in the country, and its one of the biggest averages per capita in the world.
And theyre the biggest watchers on the porn site of gay porn. I know! And I closed it and thought, I cant do this in church; I cant say this publicly.' he added.
Tamaki also said New Zealand was designated for destruction because the country has the queerest parliament in the world.
He continued his rant, saying, Please, stop watching porn, New Zea...

Why Discourse on Ethical Photography Matters "IndyWatch Feed Photography"
Seeing is believing. This concise rhetoric goes a long way to explain the power of photography. Where a statistic can reduce an entire country to a few numbers a photograph can bypass the mind and head directly to the heart via the eyes. Emotional, heartbreaking eyewitness testimony is just another block of text compared to the medium which makes the viewer themselves an eyewitness to whatever the photographer wanted to show them.

HB 700 would prohibit any public school district or public charter school receiving public funds from requiring any student, as a condition of enrollment, as a condition of attendance at any school or activity, or for any other reason to receive a Covid-19 vaccine.
HB 700 (combined with HB 445 in committee) has passed out of committee and is before the full House.
The bill also states that no public body, state department or agency, political subdivision, judge or judicial official, or any person appointed by the governor acting in an official capacity acting under such appointment shall require any person to receive a Covid-19 vaccination.

SAMPLE SCRIPT:
Hi, my name is ____, and I am a constituent. I am asking Representative/Senator ____ to support HB 700, which would prohibit requiring Covid-19 shots and discrimination against students in grades K-12 and other Missouri residents.
This bill is especially important to ensure students in school K-12 are not discriminated against for choosing not to receive fast-tracked Covid-19 injections. Ideally, this bill would apply to all public college and university students and employees. As currently written, it is meant to prohibit a general requirement but allows for some exceptions.
There have been no long-term studies on the safety of these shots. People should not be forced to be injected with an experimental substance that could cause serious side effects. As of 3/3/23, 2,439,553 injuries and 34,455 deaths were reported in connection with the Covid shots to the CDCs Vaccine Adverse Events Reporting System (VAERS) and it is estimated that only 1-10 percent of adverse reactions are ever reported. And yet the manufacturers are shielded from liability for any harm they cause.
Vaccine mandates are being justified by the idea of the greater good and protecting other people. But no individual, especially not children, should be forced to take a medical treatm...
Support three important vaccine bills in Rhode Island! "IndyWatch Feed Food"
Speak up for three good bills in the Rhode Island legislature that would prohibit Covid-19 shot and other vaccine mandates and discrimination.
H 5884 would prohibit discriminationbased on vaccination status with regard to employment, public accommodations, and credit. This bill also prohibits the Governor from ordering any type of vaccine during an emergency.
H 5916 would prohibit government entities from implementing or enforcing Covid-19 shot mandates. This bill also requires the Attorney General to investigate violations and provides for a penalty.
H 5565 would prohibit discrimination based on Covid-19 shots in employment, public accommodations, and lending.
In addition, any public or private employer who discharged, terminated, penalized or otherwise discriminated against any former or current employee as a result of the individuals refusal to receive a Covid injection or provide proof of Covid vaccination, shall, upon the effective date of this subsection, immediately offer the employee reinstatement to their former position and/or reinstate any benefits, vacation pay, personal time, paid time off, or other benefits that the employee lost as a result of the employers actions in discharging, terminating or penalizing the employee.
This bill also prohibits the Governor from issuing an executive order mandating Covid shots or punishing those who refuse.(A better solution would be to prohibit discrimination based on any vaccine, not just Covid vaccines, but this bill would still help.)
Every person has the right to bodily autonomy especially when science clearly demonstrates that unvaccinated people do not pose a risk to others.
Please speak up! We need YOUR voice to help pass bills H 5884, H 5916 and H5565 today!
