Artist Paints Architectural Portraits Onto Concrete Fragments of Same Demolished Estate "IndyWatch Feed Arts"
Sometimes the choice of materials is just as meaningful as the art itself. Artist Harriet Mena Hill has been working on an ongoing series of unorthodox paintings called The Aylesbury Fragments, rendering scenes of architecture directly onto pieces of concrete. Each of these remnants is salvaged material from the Aylesbury Estate, a large housing complex in South East London, which is being demolished as part of a regeneration program.
Hill finds a way to record snippets of the dismantled buildings on numerous shards of concrete, which range from palm-sized to nearly the length of a human torso. The inspiration for what she paints derives from the stories of residents who used to live in these torn-down apartments. I started making work about the Aylesbury Estate in response to my experience of working with the residents on art projects back in 2018, Hill tells My Modern Met. The Aylesbury Fragments document what remains of the occupied parts of the estate as it undergoes regeneration. The concrete pieces that Hill uses come from a block of flats called Chiltern which was demolished in 2020.
The Aylesbury Estate was designed by architect Hans Peter Fenton and constructed between 1963 and 1977. It consisted of 2,700 dwellings that housed about 10,000 residents at one time. During the 1980s, however, the site went through a period of disrepair, eventually prompting the beginning of a regeneration program in 2005. I wanted to present the human and community side of the estate which has historically experienced an extremely negative portrayal in the press, Hill explains. The works offer an opportunity to do so.
Scroll down to see more works from this series, and follow Hill on Instagram to keep up to date with her latest projects.

The United States V. China: The Mystery behind the Expanding War "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"
A War doesnt have to be publicly declared or mutually agreed upon by both of the participants. The United States should be keenly aware of this, considering our corporeal and civic annihilation of Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya to name a few. Would any of these countries agree to be bitch-slapped back into a feudal age if they couldve avoided it?
The authoritarian regime in China has engaged in a subversive war on the American citizenry, whether the Biden administration will admit to this or not. Is Biden reluctant to address Chinas complicity in the fatal poisoning of U.S. civilians because hes colluded with the corrupt nation so often?
Chinas unrelenting assault on young Americans with copious amounts of fentanyl has eradicated tens of thousands in recent years. Biden refuses to return volley for this attack and has aided in its efficiency by recklessly opening our borders. In comparison, the Bush regime slaughtered millions in recompense for the murder of just three-thousand on 9/11, most of which were unwitting, Middle Eastern dirt-farmers.
Apart from poisoning thousands of remiss young adults and irrevocably destabilizing their families, the Chinese have been purchasing land around key American military installations.
As disturbing as a communist land grab surrounding American military bases might appear, it pales in comparison to other occurrences. Recently, Chinese surveillance operations have been acknowledged to exist in several of our citys.
These surveillance hubs are littered throughout the densely populated areas of communist China and they infect every nook and cranny of its society. It seems unfathomable, however, to imagine these subversive intelligence agencies operating in the United States. If American citizens are privy to this alarming development, then its safe to say that our officials mustve known for years.
The Chi-com infiltration of our cities and around our military bases is only astounding when taken out of context. The reality is that we are voluntarily tied at the hip with Chinas oppressive regime.
Just take a stroll to the nearest bargain superstore and youll discover 99% of its products are made in China. Is there any other time in history when the United States was so interdependent with such a formidable enemy?

Researching more than 100 bitcoin mining companies, its clear that this industry is poised to advance energy consumption more than any other.
This is an opinion editorial by Ritabrata Santra, an engineer focused on energy tech.
I bought my first bitcoin in 2016. I was a college sophomore and it was my second year living in the U.S. As I was acclimating myself to the new way of life I found myself living, I came across an article on Bitcoin.
I had saved up some money from my on-campus jobs. As someone who saw the devaluation of my parents hard-earned money, the value proposition of Bitcoin was immediately clear to me and I made the second-biggest mistake of my life: I bought a bitcoin off of Coinbase (for $1,500) instead of mining and cold storing (HODLing) it! If you are wondering what my biggest mistake is: Two months later, I got an internship in Germany, so I sold the bitcoin to buy myself a ticket to Berlin, and six months later, one bitcoin was worth around $16,000!
One of the many things that stood out in my new way of life in the U.S. is the reliable access to electricity. Growing up in India, I witnessed how a lack of energy impacted health, knowledge and opportunity.
Today, developed economies consume as much energy as 12 times the average in some of the developing economies. There are over 900 million people who do not have access to electricity but we flare enough gas every year to power entire sub-saharan Africa. In other words, we burn enough gas (emitting carbon dioxide, or CO2) to provide energy for millions of people without creating any economic value, as we do not have the necessary technology to profitably transport the energy where it is most needed.
I believe that the energy trilemma, the need to balance energy reliability, affordability and sustainability, is one of the great challenges of our lifetime we need to eradicate energy poverty and meet the additional demand of energy from emerging economies, while actively decarbonizing to reach carbon neutrality.
Bitcoin mining serves as a medium for capturing the wasted economic potential of excess energy resources, accelerates otherwise expensive but innovative renewable development, and therefore sits at the center of solving the energy trilemma.

An autistic Year 10 (or equivalent to Grade 9 in the US) student from Wakefield, England, was dismissed from his school and bombarded with death threats after an event where a Quran was allegedly disrespected.
Boy who 'dropped a copy of the Quran at UK school' receives death threats https://t.co/ZosIO4hBH9
Daily Mail Online (@MailOnline) March 2, 2023
The incident started with a wager after the unnamed 14-year-old student played Call of Duty with his friends. The winner could tell the loser what to buy or do. In this case, the autistic student lost the wage and was told to buy a copy of the Quran. He complied and purchased the holy book from Amazon.
The autistic student then brought the Quran inside the premises of Kettlethorpe High School and gave it to another student, who recited a passage from the book to other students on a tennis court. It was also revealed that an unrelated boy knocked the Quran off the students hands, causing it to fall on the floor.
Afterward, the autistic student picked up the Quran and placed it in his bag. Soon after, rumors quickly spread that the Quran was thrown around, spat at, and even burned. They were refuted by Akef Akbar, an independent Muslim councilor for East Wakefield, who posted photos of the Quran on Instagram with a caption narrating the incident.

Iranian Feminist Artist Censored by American University, Sparking Backlash "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"
An article from the British online magazine Spiked revealed that a private liberal arts college in Minnesota temporarily closed and censored an art exhibition of a feminist artist after claiming some Muslim students were offended by it.
I wrote at @TheFIREorg about "non-consensual" art at Macalester College, blasphemy, and the foolishness of letting people decide what expression others, not just themselves, should be able to look at. https://t.co/vGaxGX23M2
Sarah McLaughlin (@sarahemclaugh) February 10, 2023
The exhibition opened at Macalester College in St.Paul last January 27. It featured the works of Taravat Talepasand, a 44-year-old Iranian-American female artist originally hailing from Oregon. Her works often challenged political and religious orthodoxy, criticizing Islamic conservatism and the oppression of women under Islamist regimes.
Some artworks the college claimed to have shocked and offended students' sensibilities include a risqu drawing of a woman in hijab lifting her clothes and showing her underwear and another lifting her niqab to reveal her underwear while raising the middle finger.
The exhibit also featured porcelain sculptures of women in niqabs revealing their breasts. Lastly, Talepasand also featured a neon sign saying Woman, Life, Freedom in English and Persian. This slogan has become a symbol of protest against the Islamic Republic after protests broke out last year.
Not pleased with her artworks, some Macalesters student body members submitted a petition demanding to shut down the exhibition, claiming that Talepasands works caused "deep pain" and even perpetuated harm against Muslims.
...I notice a lot of similarities between the language used by the complaining parties here and those used at Hamline. Unfortunately people are learning that using a particular framing and the right words will allow them to get their way even if it means censoring others.

Why a Cube-Shaped City in Saudi Arabia is Upsetting Muslims "IndyWatch Feed Spiritual"
A cube-shaped megastructure for Riyadh in Saudi Arabia sparks controversy in social media for its similarity to the 'Kaaba.'
On February 16th, Saudi Arabia lifted the curtain on the latest architectural design of a cubic-shaped megastructure, which received criticism for strikingly resembling Islam's most sacred site, the Kaaba.

Public Investment Fund (@PIF_en) February 16, 2023
According to the Saudi kingdom's Public Investment Fund (PIF), the construction of "The Mukaab" - derived from the Arabic word for the cube- will occur in Saudi Arabia's capital Riyadh and is expected to be completed by the end of this decade.
The height, width, and length of this massive city-within-a-city will be 400 meters which is large enough to contain at least 20 Empire State Buildings. Providing over 100,000 residential units, 9,000 hotel rooms, and 1.4 million square meters of office space, it will also be the home to many entertainment and culture venues.
Spearheaded by Crown Prince Muhammad bin Salman, this project is one of the plans to create the biggest and most advanced downtown in the world in Riyadh.
Inspired by the styles used in the Najd region in Saudi Arabia for the design and architecture, the building features overlapping triangular forms. However, some social media users have pointed out that the design is far too similar to the Kabba.
The Kabba is a cube structure at the center of Islam's most important mosque, Masjid al-Haram, in Mecca. The Muslims consider it the House of God and the Qibla (direction of prayer) when performing Namaz.
One Twitter user named Kariman said, "This is a strange choice, or is it just me? The New Mukaab, like the Kaaba but with shopping venues...?"

Alongside Advocate S. Doraisamy and V. Elangovan, the petitioner appeared in court and said her friends helped her escape to Tamil Nadu for her safety.
In the affidavit she filed, the petitioner said that Uttar Pradesh was her birthplace; however, she later moved to Madhya Pradesh with her family. She also said that her father worked in the Agricultural Department but retired in 2017.
She was a student of Government Maharani Laskshmibai Girls' College in Bhopal and said that she held a Master's degree in nutrition and dietetics. Currently, she is pursuing a diploma in Yoga. She claimed that her parents forced her to become a member of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP), a right-wing all-India student organization. However, she also said that she left the organization after a while.
The petitioner allegedly accused her stepmother and other relatives of being followers of black magic after coincidentally learning about their intention to kill her to perform a human sacrifice ritual. She also heard about her younger brother's demise, who underwent the same ritual when he was only ten.

AITA for telling the new neighbors that they got what they paid for, including being shunned by the neighborhood?
Where I live, real estate developers have started snatching up family homes, bulldozing them and building enormous 2 million dollar houses on the plots of land. Until developers snatched up the lot next door, bulldozed and erected an enormous house that blocked out the light to most of the garden. Many of us tried to fight it with the city but everything was denied. It was heartbreaking. Our neighborhood has been changed forever. This was a link to my family and I almost have had to go through a grieving process for it.

Trust, Betrayal, and the Nexus of Mathematics and Morality: The Prisoners Dilemma Animated "IndyWatch Feed Arts"
Real generosity toward the future lies in giving all to the present, Albert Camus wrote as he considered what it really means to be in solidarity with justice an elegantly phrased reminder that the decisions we make today are the only fulcrum by which we move the outcomes of tomorrow. And yet the greatest pitfall of human consciousness might be our habitual forgetting of this fundamental fact.
In 1950, two mathematicians working on game theory devised a cruelly brilliant thought experiment demonstrating just how poorly we manage to calibrate future outcomes for our own best interests, exposing a secret underground of consciousness where mathematics and morality converge. Known as The Prisoners Dilemma, it illuminates the complex dynamics that govern loyalty, betrayal, collaboration, and trust dynamics that play out in myriad subtle ways across our everyday lives.
The classic thought experiment comes alive with unexpected delight in this animated short film from TED-Ed by economist Lucas Husted and animators Ivana Bonjak and Thomas Johnson Volda:
Complement with philosopher Martha Nussbaum on the emotional machinery of trust and the only fruitful response to betrayal, then revisit other animated adaptations of classic thought experiments: The Ship of Theseus (exploring what makes you you), Platos Cave (exploring the central mystery of consciousness), Boltzmanns Brain Paradox (exploring whether reality is a hallucination), The Infinite Hotel Paradox (exploring the mind-bending nature of infinity), and Marys Room (exploring the limits of knowledge).

Reboot of The Proud Family Cartoon Dedicates an Episode to Autism Awareness "IndyWatch Feed Arts"
The early 2000s animated series The Proud Family celebrated Blackness and represented Black families on screen. Airing on the Disney Channel, it also tackled serious subjects such as bullying, religion, and homelessness. Its new reboot The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder is no different. One episode, in particular, has recently gained traction online for its representation of the autism spectrum and its candid conversation on autism diagnoses.
In the episode, the family becomes concerned with young BeBes lack of fear. They are recommended to see child psychologist Dr. Lord, who says that BeBe is showing signs of being on the autism spectrum. A short clip from the episode was shared on Twitter, where parents Oscar and Trudy first hear and respond to the diagnosis. Oscar has trouble understanding the diagnosis and accuses Dr. Lord of calling BeBe stupid. Oscar initially wants to leave, calling the psychologist a quack.
Eventually, Oscar sits to listen to Dr. Lord, who explains that her tests show BeBe is incredibly intelligent, curious, and fearless. She states, all an autism diagnosis means is Bebe will need a little extra effort and attention. Dr. Lord also adds needing support doesnt mean lack of ability, and emphasizes the importance of the family believing in BeBe, as well as teaching and helping him.

'This book is an important contribution, and I hope it will open

University, Paris
"Answers so many questions, scientific and esoteric, about the true

The story of the science of plasma and its revolutionary
implications for the way we understand the universe and our place
in it.
Histories of science in the 20th century have focused on relativity
and quantum mechanics. But, quietly in the background, there has
been a third area of exploration which has equally important
implications for our understanding of the universe. It is unknown
to the general public despite the fact that many Nobel prize
winners, senior academics and major research centres around the
world have been devoted to it - it is the study of plasma
Plasma is the fourth state of matter and the other three - gas,
liquid and solids - emerge out of plasma. This book will reveal how
over 99% of the universe is made of plasma and how there are two
gigantic clouds of plasma, called the Kordylewski Clouds, hovering
between the Earth and the Moon, only recently discovered by
astronomers in Hungary. Other revelations not previously known
outside narrow academic disciplines include the evidence that in
certain circumstances plasma exhibits features that suggest they
may be in some sense alive: clouds of plasma have evolved double
helixes, banks of cells and crystals, filaments and junctions which
could control the flow of electric currents, thus generating an
intelligence similar to machine intelligence. We may, in fact, have
been looking for signs of extra-terrestrial life in the wrong
place.
Bestselling author Robert Temple has been following the study of
plasma for decades and was personally acquainted with several of
the senior scientists - including Nobel laureates - at its
forefront, including Paul Dirac, David Bohm, Peter Mitchell and
Chandra Wickramasinghe (who has co-written an academic paper with
Temple).
PROFESSOR ROBERT TEMPLE is the author of a dozen challenging and

To this day he remains one of the most requested celebrity wish granters and helps kids from around the world. Jordans donation will create an endowment to provide the funds needs to make future wishes possible for kids with critical illnesses, said the organization. Now, his wish is for his donation to inspire others to help Make-A-Wish to make more dreams more true and to reduce the number of children who are waiting for their wishes to come true.
Michael using his birthday as a chance to make history for Make-A-Wish speaks to the quality of his character and his loyal dedication to making life better for c...

Picnic Table that Converts to Benches "IndyWatch Feed Diy"
52" Waterfall Framed Console "IndyWatch Feed Diy"
A few months ago, I built this console for my sister. It turned out so well, I had to build another shorter version.
In this very quick build video, watch how I build this console.
This console is built using a pocket holes method.
"https://www.ana-white.com/woodworking-projects/waterfall-framed-grand-console-table"> check this post and video out for how to build this project without pocket holes.Midcentury Farmhouse Nightstand "IndyWatch Feed Diy"
I built these nightstands to match the Midcentury Modern Farmhouse Bed plans. They were super easy to whip out, and turned out beautiful! I love the roomy drawer, the open shelf, and the wide top. If you are looking for inexpensive but nice nightstands with a modern feel, these are the ones!
The best way to understand how this is made is to watch the quick build video:

Essential Two Step Stool "IndyWatch Feed Diy"
This stool might look a little complicated, but I promise you - if you can squeeze a jigsaw trigger, you can make it. It's just sides cut from a 1x12, a 1x12 bottom step, a 1x6 top step, and some 1x2s in there for extra support. Once you get it cut out, it's like 10 minutes to make.
It's got a full, wide bottom step, so I have found myself even using it.
Not only has this step stool held up well in sturdiness, but the finish really is amazing me. The stool is still in very good shape for ten years of use!
Our power sander won't sand a curved cut, so these sanding pads work pretty good.
Another note - I was able to get a pretty good jigsaw cut on the two sides by using a fresh wood blade and clamping the two sides together and cutting as one. This really helps minimize the need for sanding.
After vacuuming the step stool ... we are ready for primer!
I used this Glidden Trim and Door paint and am amazed at how well the finish has held up. It was a paint to use because it's oil based, but so worth it.
I'll admit, I was a little nervous when I peeked in the paint room and took a look in the can - the paint seperates out so you must mix it. Nothing a little gentle stirring can't fix.

1x12 Coffee Table with Storage and Shelves "IndyWatch Feed Diy"
This coffee table is easy to build and adds tons of storage right to the middle of your living room. We love it to store a home office, home school, toys, board games, gaming components and more!
Hide a home gym in the middle of your living room This genius coffee table cleverly stores yoga mats, hand weights and other home gym accessories, and rolls out of the way to create a workout area. T
Big, roomy space sized generously for an exercise or yoga mat, foam blocks, exercise bands, hand weights and more - right where you need it.
On wheels, it's DESIGNED to roll out of the way to create floor space for working out.
Then roll right back and store the equipment.
It's a home gym hidden right where you need it - in the middle of your living room!
This is an original design that you can't buy - you have to DIY with our free plans. You'll need four 1x12 boards, a drill and a saw to tackle this build. Here's a quick video of me building this project:

We used cedar fence pickets for the doors because we didn't have any pallets, and I love how they add texture (and are also very economical)
